Fender Rumble Club

So heres the report. The room was 1600 ft2 with 12' ceilings. The amp was set at 12' o clock gain and about 7 o'clock master. Very minimal. All other dials were flat except the vintage was punched. The bass was well heard!! To be fair this was a very quiet gig: 1 acoustic, 1 "double neck" guitar, a harp and 2 mics.
The vintage button does that. last time I pushed it in, our sax player told me to turn down.

Today, I went to pick up my bass fresh from a setup and string change. I came back home with a Rumble 100 and Bassman 500. Now I have those, and L&M has a decent grip on my wallet for the next year. If it hadn't been for a friend helping me get them home, I don't think I'd have bought either as I took the bus there. But he volunteered, so really it's all his fault.

I haven't had much time to play with the Rumble yet, but wow it's light! I did the classic thing of putting too much effort into lifting it and almost threw it. I think I'm going to like the drive, and it's got a nice beefy sound with my ESP F-5. I'll probably spend most of tomorrow experimenting.
This may be the wrong place to ask, but I thought with a few Bassman owners here someone may have the answer. Is the manual for the BM 500 posted online yet? I don't see it in Fender's listing.
Thanks for all the excellent posts that helped me at least temporarily cure my G.A.S.

I've got a few questions regarding an additional cab added to my 200 combo. I'm mainly looking at the 112 and the 210 cabs (I'm a little ocd about symmetry, so the 115 would be my last choice. If it Really is the best, I'd consider it). I understand that Fender recommends the 112, but I'm looking for input from you fine folks. Has anybody had a chance to compare the 200c w/112 cab VS the 200c w/210 cab? What, if any, differences did you notice? Also, as far as mixing speaker size, I'm not familiar with the topic. Any pertinent information would be appreciated. Finally, a question to the members who have one of these 'stacks' ; how do you orient your speakers? The combo up top seems the most logical, but I've never seen/heard a mixed speaker stack with the larger speaker up top. Is there a noticeable difference either way? Thank you for you time.

I don't have a 200, but rather a 500H and 500 combo. I have also had a 210 in the past, and currently own two 112 cabs.

Comparing the two cabs, I found the 210 to have more low end than the 112, but the 112 is no slouch. The low end from the 112 is deep but tight, not boomy. The 210 sounds pretty much identical to the 210s in the combo - punchy, deep and smooth. As for midrange, the 112 has a different kind of midrange than the 210; I'd say the 210 is a little smoother, the 112 is a little barkier. IOW if you like mids from a traditional 15, you'll probably like the 112, especially if you tuen off the tweeter and crank the high end for a more vintage kind of high end.

Other differences are that the 112 is a little less efficient than the 210, meaning you have to drive it a little harder to get same volume out of it. I've used it under my 500 combo and that rig sounds killer, but the 210s in the combo overshadow it slightly.

I know nothing about the Rumble 115.

Hope this helps.

Also, It's overthinking to start talking about the evils of mixing cabs and such. For my money, it's trial and error - sometimes it works and sometimes it don't (sic). For example, I have two GK 115-3 cabs that sound great by themselves, but together, "matched" as they say, sounds terrible. But put one of those GK 115s under my 500 combo and it totally kicks.

No matter what, you have to try it out and see if you like it. If you're like me, you'll know in the first 5 seconds.

Get over it, because it really is the best!;) Do you like the sound from the 15 in your Rumble 200 combo? If you do then adding the Rumble 115 will be twice as nice as it contains the identical woofer. Having them stacked together gives you the added benefit known as the 'coupling effect'. Costs the same $300 as the Rumble 112. :bassist:

ok...got me a Rumble 500 combo! it's quite rad! tone is awesome. i think i like it a bit more than my GK1001rbii...i think...that vintage button is awesome! i just wonder how much more awesome the Bassman 500 could be?

but...i bet with a 410 cab the Rumble 500 is a killer! what cab would be the optimum for getting the best results out of the Rumble 500 combo? For big thick fat juicy Fender P bass with flats tone...rock , funk, post punk rnb etc...just a great tone...

The Rumble 210 is the perfect mate to the Rumble 500 combo because it was designed that way. It is the exact same size cabinet that contains the exact same drivers in the exact same configuration. Stacked you end up with a diagonally staggered vertical 4x10 array that is decimatingly LOUD! Rumbles Rock! :smug:

Try the combo alone and see where you get. Only reason for an extra cab is more volume.

Since the 200 combo is less powerful, would the 210 be considered the most efficient option of the 3?

Can you elaborate on this 'coupling effect'?

I am 61 years old, been playing bass since I was 14....that's a lot of years! Been through every amp combination imagineable.....SVT's with two 8-10" cabs, Mesa Boogie D180 with Road 2-15" cab, Fender Studio bass amp, Aguilar TH500, on & on......and I have to say that my Rumble 500 combo is the best sounding amp, bang for the buck that I've ever owned! And I was NEVER a Fender bass amp fan!! I have a 210 Rumble extension cab, and have never needed it. Did an outside gig last week with a 60's classic rock band, and the combo just killed!
How did Fender come up with this monster??? Going to get a Rumble 40 for home use.....

I do outdoor gigs all the time with the 500 combo. It's killer. You only have to fill the stage, not the whole place. That's for the PA. But really, most of the outdoor gigs I play, I have no PA support and it sounds fine. Too Loud, even.

Since the 200 combo is less powerful, would the 210 be considered the most efficient option of the 3?
You could look at it that way, but there's potential for the 210 to overshadow the 15. Or the other way around. You just have to try it to see if it works for you. Do you not have enough volume? What problem are you trying to solve?

And I'll leave Linnen to explain coupling. Interesting subject.

That is just the way I feel about all the amps I have owned and played through. My 200 is the best amp I have ever used. It even beats the only Ampeg I ever truly bonded with which was the B100R. And it just blows it away, I must say!! Now it is up to all the other companies to play catch up!! They are just so far behind now it is actually funny. Like the 500, the 200 just rocks!!
