Fender Rumble Club

Just ordered the Rumble 500 combo over labor day weekend!! It should be here any day, I'll try and post a pic or 2 when I get it! So Stoked!!!
In the mean time a question. I've read all the good things, pros and cons, for extension cab options; 15, 210, or 12. Does anyone have an idea or experience on how might a 212 8omh ext cab would match up with the 500 combo? I'm still more than likely going to get the rumble 210 extension eventualy, but I am curious about a 212 configuration. For example something like the Eden CX212, rated 250W RMS @ 8 ohms, 36Hz - 20KHz.
Love the thread, thanks!!!

Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club, jbassbrown :woot: You are member #506 :hyper:
You'll never know about the Eden cab's compatibility until you hook 'em up and listen!

Now, I've heard that my local music store will REPLACE all faulty (within warranty period) Rumbles 100 that has been handed in a second time for warranty repair. One "round" doesn't cost that much for Fender, but at two, it's better to give the customers a brand new one. However, the can is still open to see if this will be good enough, if even the new one will keep failing over time, then it's time to look elsewhere. The market is SOAKED and crowded today with lightweight class d combos and lightweight neodymium speakers. Even I know that the speaker inside rumble 100 w isn't a neodymium. Someone switched it out, and gained 0.5 kg on it.

The other thread about people going from heavyweight Ampeg stuff to lightweight seems give me enough to think about. There's Markbass, Augilar, EA amps, Epifani, Ashdown, GK, Genz-Benz, TC Electronic, Tecamp, Phil Jones, and probably a dozen more I've forgot. Don't know if EA does combos anymore though.

But Fender Rumbles awesome sound, coupled with their lightweight is tremenduos. Only if it lasted for a while... ;-) You know, they may very well have the built in planned obsolesence, and calculated that it will last JUST beyond the warranty period. But it kicked in a bit too soon... wouldn't surprise me at all.

BTW. The store said, that nationally, they had more than a couple handed in. The 100W only it seems. Maybe a bad batch that went havoc...

Mine had a faulty overdrive section. The dealer ordered a replacement immediately. :) Seems that there are a few duds out there, but that Fender dealers and Fender themselves are doing their best to put it right.

I find it a pity. This second one of mine, let's see how long it will last. The new batch is backordered due (or thanks to) popular demand. They have now a month wait I'm told. Luckily I can come in and borrow ANYTHING when gigging. When scrutinizing the internet and all other brands, no one comes close at the mere 100W, AND at that weight AND at that price.

I don't know if this is a long shot with such online dealers such as Thomann and whatever you have in the states. That I can't think of all the hassle that I had to make with this, if it was bought through an internet dealer - far away - only. You know, slowly starting to make the consumers aware of the local-shop support, even more, with all the hassle required to send it back, and fill in forms and so on. There's no way that an internet dealer "lends" you another amp while they're waiting for backordered amps. I've heard from the store that I can - if I want to - buy another one, since I got a credit note receit due to that they don't know when it will show up. They don't loose anything on the deal. Fender does, eventually, in the long run. Slightly OT.

But as it is now, I am a member in limbo...;-)

Well here it is, my new Rumble 500!! Loving the sound, my bass has never sounded more clear! Cant wait to stack it on my 15" at the jam space and see how it does with the rest of the band!

Picked this bad boy up last Friday and it's already done a recording session and an outdoor gig. Played it at about 8 o'clock for the outdoor gig (using a sansamp DI) and boy does it live up to its name.

I couldn't be happier with it! It's loud, commanding, clear and light. What more could a boy ask for (in an amp)?

Tonight it is finally home, meeting the rest of the gang.

From left to right:

Fender Precision with Fender Reissue '63 pup;
Epiphone EB-3 with Dimarzio Model One split coil pup;
Handmade Precision with Seymour SPB1 pup;
Gretsch Electromatic (my first own bass);
Early 90's Epiphone Accu bass;
Aaaand last but not least, taking center stage: Fender Rumble 500 v3!!!!!

I'd like to be in the club now if I may! :)

Still waiting on my second rumble V3 500 combo to be sent out. :(

I had been enjoying the Fender Rumble V3 500 combo amp for the past two weeks. I have been playing at home by myself and trying to get my settings dialed in. This amp has great tone capabilities and lots of power... well, it did. Now it has no power.

Finally had the chance to play it with the band last week. Got everything set up and I made some adjustments to the setting I had been using at home, to accommodate the change in room acoustics.

I plugged the Rumble into a wall outlet with nothing else in the other port. Things were sounding great and I was cutting through the mix nicely. We played for about a hour and 10 minutes then I decided to change basses. I rolled the Master down to 0, flipped the power switch and hooked up my other bass. When I flipped the power switch back on, NOTHING!! No red leds, nothing coming out of the amp, no smoking or burnt smell, just DEAD. I tried using a different power cable, tried different outlets in the room all to no avail. I then hooked up my LH1000 rig, using the power cable from the rumble, to the same outlet. It fired right up without any issue and sounded normal. Played for another 2hrs using the LH1000 rig without any problems.

Really hoping I just got a lemon but not sure what could have been the cause of the issue.

Wow man! That is extremely unusual. :( At least it's new and you can exchange it where you bought it. This is the first Rumble 500 failure I've heard about. If you haven't already do call Fender and let them know.

Exactly!! I did so much researching the amp before I place the order. I didn't read about a single failure like this. It is the first amp I have purchased that actually did live up to the reviews. I've been missing it already. Had a gig this weekend and used my Rumble 350 head. I like it, but not as much as the V3 500. When I get the replacement combo, I'm going to perform the same scenario and make sure it's solid.

Weird.
The ICEpower modules have their power supply built in with more than enough capacity to run flat-out, indefinitely, plus extra power to run the preamp section. These modules are famous for their reliability. If you Google ICEpower failure you get results for Minnesota winter storms, not amp failures.

I was aware of only one thing with potential for damaging the module: connecting or disconnecting speakers to the EXT. SPKR jack.

to wit, from the manual:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Rumble 200/500 amplifiers include a digital power amplifier that operates in bridge mode. Both the tip (+) and sleeve (–) have voltage present, so never ground either the tip (+) or sleeve (–) of the speaker cable. Always make connections with the power turned off, and use care when making connections with cables that have non-insulated (bare metal) type plugs. Using speaker cables with insulated bodies is preferred, but not required.

Maybe a lead to the power receptacle was not soldered well and just finally vibrated off.
You know... Indonesia...

So oddly enough, I get home tonight and my replacement Rumble V3 500 combo had arrived!!! I was excited until I looked at the box a little closer and recognized it as a repack job.. Opened it up and sure enough, didn't quite look like the factory packing job of the first amp. I use to work for FedEx so I know boxes can open during the sort and get tapped up on the spot. When I pulled the amp out however, no power cord and no manual. The rubber feet looked dirty and there WAY too much dust all over the thing for being a New unit. I think just just threw me a floor model. I just check the site and now, both the combo and the head are temporarily out of stock. So, I thought I'd just test it out and figure if everything is working fine, I'll just keep it.. has a 5yr warranty. So I played it for about 30mins and sounds fine. Powered it off eat dinner and went back to play some more. Upon powering it up, there is a loud POP. I mean loud, like taking a 9v to speaker connections. Tried a whole bunch of things, different cables, basses, power cords, outlets, all dials at 0, no buttons engaged, and no mater what, loud pop on power up. The first unit I had definitely did not have this happen. There was a slight pop, what I would consider normal, but this is way louder.

This sucks!
