Fender Rumble Club

@Tandark got me thinking what if anything would I change in the Rumble line to announce at this coming Winter NAMM 20 days from now? Rumbles have been so successful why change anything? You don't mess with success, and if it aint broke don't fix it.

Still about the only things I would do is to bump up the wattage on the Rumble 200 to 300. Coupled with an extension speaker cabinet that would surely do the trick for any venue.

Likewise a bump up in the wattage of the Rumble 100 to something like 150 or even 200 and the addition of a powered extension speaker output jack would give this handy little combo some extreme versatility.

What say you?

I'd like to see some type of LED or lighted indicator to show when the filter buttons are engaged. I have a hard time telling when I have a filter on or off, I'm sure this will be an even more difficult task on a dark stage. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The only thing I would change in the Rumbles would be a matching 1x15 cabinet for the 200. I realize they make one and I have seen it locally. I just have trouble pulling the trigger because it is not the same size. We already know the same size works because the 200 is so great. The 1x12 IS the same size, but I can only imagine the I would eq slightly different for a 12 when it was coupled with a 15. I am not all torn up over it though. The 200 is great as a standalone combo.

That would be a piece of cake to take the Rumble 210 cabinet and change the baffleboard for the 15". The actual 15" Eminence woofers are all identical custom designs for Rumble, so no problems there. You never can tell.

There is really very little I would change about the Rumble combos. The sound, the weight and the sizes are spot on as far as I'm concerned. I can only think of a couple of things I would change. The most important of these would be to add LEDs to the "vintage", "contour" and "bright" switches, so it's easier to see whether they're on or not. And moving the headphone and aux jacks to the top panel would a plus. Other than that, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

This spec bump - even at an increased 349.99 or probably 379.99 price point - would take all the existing decision making hesitation out of my choice between R100 combo and R500 combo.

Sounds and looks like hocum to me, but I will wait for your review.

GRAMMAII-large.jpg
I got the Auralex Gramma today. I put my Rumble 100 in the living room and put the Gramma right next to it. I played a little then put the 100 on it. Off and on, off and on, playing different things. I could hear a difference, even if it wasn't a lot. The living room is carpeted. Still it made a difference.

Then I came up with a test that showed what it does. I played a three string D chord:
E string 10th fret
A string 12th fret
D string 12th fret
When it was on the carpet, there was a much greater amount of sympathetic vibrations going on in the living room, even to the point of something buzzing. Put the Rumble on the Gramma and the house quieted down considerably. Noticeable, beyond any doubt!! Plus, the amp sounded just a little clearer.

I realize this was a totally unscientific experiment, but since I did it myself and could hear a difference, I consider it valid. Even if I am the only person convinced. I believe when I use it on one of those noisy wooden stages, I will be happy with the results.

In a world where we claim we can hear the differences between strings, wood, picks, different finishes, or whatever, the Auralex was something I could absolutely hear doing its job.

I use a 500 combo in a classic rock band, sometimes with a 210 extension cabinet. Generally really happy with the sound, vintage button engaged. But the sound is generally a bit too "boomy" with the vintage engaged....may go back to it being off, and more volume & oomph on the bass. Has anybody else sensed this regarding the Vintage button??

A question for Dr. Linnin:

What cable is best to connect the 15" extension cab into my 500 Combo? Balanced 1/4"? Unbalanced?
Thanks in advance!
I use these 3' Pro-Co's with Neutrik 1/4" male plugs to connect my Rumble 350 head to my Rumble 112's. Very well made & heavy duty. They would work just as well for your Rumble 115 or any other cabinet. Pro Co S12-3 TS-TS Speaker Cable - 3'
