I spent some time with my old friend the farmer who had a triple bypass Monday.
Drove 90 minutes to L.A. and spent 90 minutes with Max until a new round of main meds kicked in and he drifted off to LaLa Land. His wife was there too and we caught up on everything that's been happening since I saw them 4 months ago. (unrelated story: He got the squatters out finally with minimal hassle.)
He was lucid, in good spirits, and getting ready to go back to the ranch to recuperate. It warmed my heart to see him doing so well just a few days after being split wide open like an oyster.

Linnin, I understand your distrust of Drs. If you don't have a relationship with your doctor, you're just another anonymous face to them. I am lucky to have stumbled into great insurance ages ago that has cost me next to nothing and provided great service with the same familiar doctors for 30+ years. We get along great, share some hobbies, etc. He knows what "healthy me" looks like so when I walked in a few years ago with nearly lethally low hemoglobin count, he took one look at me and called for an ambulance to the ER. His big question was: "You walked here???!!!" I too was alone with no advocate but my regular physician paved the way and acted like an advocate. He always explains stuff to me. I've also had the same GE for 7 years or so and we have become friends too. He saved me from a crappy (literally, as in "in the bag") old age and most likely saved my life.
That's not to say we always see eye-to-eye. I've argued against some of his solutions to problems. For example, he was shocked I went off omeprazole cold turkey and asked "Why?" I gave my reasons and he acknowledged them and I'm still off any and all proton pump inhibitors. That was not easy to do. It was severe stomach acid and reflux for 3 months until things leveled out. I had to reset my digestive system and had nothing but water and apples for a week. I had to sleep sitting up or I could have aspirated acid and gone out Jimi Hendrix-style. If you've ever gotten stomach acid down your windpipe or into your lungs, you have felt some serious pain!
But I don't understand your distrust of science. I mean: science makes Rumbles produce music!
