Fender Rumble Club

Happy to be corrected
Now give us the breakdown in SPL! dB's/m over 120 degrees of dispersion. Start with low E1 = 41.20 Hz and run it up to E4 = 329.63 Hz This is what's important. Not $/watt cost analysis. Also include volume of air moved for each configuration.

For coliseum & arena gigs, you'd need to move about 1/4 acre of air about 1/4 of a mile at 110 dB throughout the entire frequency spectrum of the electric bass guitar.

Ok, I'm really struggling with the extension cab. We play medium to large venues and I can't decide what to put under the 500 combo. All of our gigs are thru PA systems, so no issues there, but I can't decide between the two.

I don't have access to either, so I'm going in blind on the cab. ive been playing thru my old Ampeg 8x10 forever, so I'm leaning hard on the 15 if for anything...it's something different. Not to mention a crap ton lighter, which I am ashamed to say, was a major selling point for me. The last time I rolled that 8x10 into a venue last month, I knew I was done with that whole experience.

I want to get this Rumble set up pretty much ready for anything. I'm ready to switch completely over and get back to my Fender ways. I kept my 4 pro head (sold the cabs) and many of the venues we play supply the 8x10 Ampeg cabs, should I need them, but I want to commit to the rumble set up 100%. I have no hate for the Ampegs and I was loyal for years to that rig, but it's time for a changing of the Gaurd. Not too mention that I'm just thrilled to death with that little 500.

My delima...15 cab or 2-10? Im loving the idea of the 15, but the 10s keep creeping back into my thoughts. I've read everything I could read on it...and its 50/50, which makes it tougher to decide. I guess the flip side is, either way I can't really go wrong, huh?

Loving the rumble. I've seen it discussed to death in this thread, but if anyone doesn't mind, I'm open for more opinions if someone would like to chime in.

Thanks in advance.
I sold off my 2 SWR 410 Goliaths and picked up the Rumble 500C, a Rumble 115 cab and when it became available, the 210. I have been using the vertical array of the 500C with the 210 for the past year and a half at the average sized bar gigs and this has been more than what I need. Played a festival this past summer with FOH support and got some pretty positive feedback on the power of the bottom end. I haven't brought out the 115 yet and may sell it, or trade for another 210 to use if I want to use my old heads (80's era GK400RB, SWR Bassic350 and '68 Dual Showman. I use an old Warwick Thumb 5 as my main ax and this little set up has never left me questioning my decision. My 64 year old back is also happy. Hope this insight helps.

I had the same dilemma and went with the 2x10 because the cab sizes are the same. My OCD didn't like the idea of different size cabs. I like the way it sounds. And it is loud.

Don't forget the 112 cab. It fits the OCD width thing and it takes up less vehicle space. Power wise it is perfectly matched to the 500 combo and gives an "in between" option between the boomy 115 and the punchier 210. I'm 5'10 and the controls are at the perfect height too. Either the 115 or 210 might provide slightly more volume of moving air, but if the choice was only 115 or 210 I would suggest the 210. I am happy with the 112 under the 200 combo.

This is an interesting discussion. Fender's prices do not help because they are all over the place

200 Combo 1x15 $450 140 Watts $3.20 per watt
200 Combo 1x15 $450 +1x15 Cab $300= $750 200 Watts $3.75 per watt
500 Combo 2x10 $600 350 Watts $1.71 per watt
500 Combo 2x10 $600 + 2x10 Cab $350=$950 500 Watts $1.90 per watt
500 Combo 2x10 $600 + 1x15 Cab $300=$900 500 Watts $1.80 per watt
500 Combo 2x10 $600 + 1x12 Cab $300=$900 500 Watts $1.80 per watt
500 Head $400 + 4x10 Cab $400=$800 500 Watts $1.60 per Watt
500 Head $400 + 2x10 Cab $350=$750 350 Watts $2.14 per watt
500 Head $400 + 1x15 Cab $300=$700 - 350 Watts $2.00 per watt
500 Head $400 + 2x(2x10) Cab $700= $1200 500 Watts $2.40 per watt
500 Head $400 + 2x(1x15) Cab $600= $1000 500 Watts $2.00 Per watt
500 Head $400 + 2x10 Cab $350+1x15 Cab $300=$1050 500 Watts $2.10 Per watt

2 x 500 Combos $1200 - 700Watts $1.72 per watt. It seems to me that value for money rather than a combo and ext Cab. For an extra $250 an extra 200 watts @1.25 per watt

Damn Brother. I love it

The Fender Rumble Mystique is so much more than mere monetary outlay. It's the MoJo that makes the magic music happen. It can't be bought. It must be created! Besides which we already know Fender Rumble gives us the Boogie per Buck ratio in the entire universe. Happy Fender Friday :D
The 410 is 8 ohms so it would be 350w. The V2 was 4ohm, but heavier, and I think it was a little cheaper $299 and blown out for $199, but I could be wrong on the prices.

All your other calculations were correct, except ironically the one you put in bold.

Thanks for the correction. That was helpful and makes more sense as to the price of the 4x10. I'll update it.

Rumble 500 Head for $400 = 80 cents per watt. That's quite a bargain that has remained unchanged since it was introduced in January of 2014. D-Class ICE Power sections are known for their sonic transparency. Inexpensive watts sound just as good as expensive watts.

Differences in pre-amps is where the tone lives and why Fender; GK, and Aguilar all sound different with the very same power amp designs. If one sounds better to you, then it is better. As Duke Ellington is often quoted, "If it sounds good, it is good!"

Your choices of speaker cabinets has to do with: range of frequency response; volume of air moved, sound dispersion, and maximum SPL as measured in dB. This has nothing to do with any $/watt equation. Also you can spend a lot of money and have some really good numbers and still end up with a poor sounding cabinet. Fender's fabulous sounding Rumble cabinets defy logic as you get more than you pay for and sound better than competitors costing two and three times more.

Then there is the suck to $ ratio. No amount of $$$$ spent can make you sound good if you suck. Yet wealthy suckers continually dump money into expensive equipment in the vain hopes that somehow they will sound better. Thank goodness none of these people reside in the Fender Rumble Club.
