Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Need some help!

I have a Rumble Studio 40, that I have had for a while. Recently the speaker stopped working. Took it to a shop where it was diagnosed with an IC (integrated circuit) that got overheated and blown out. It's out of warranty, and it would take too much time and money to find a "new" part and solder 24 pins, so i told the shop not to even try. Everything else works: effects, headphones, tuner, wi-fi, FX loop, etc...

What are my options? Can I connect to a speaker cab? Can I connect to a combo amp? Just ditch it and get another one, or something else? I really like having the FX, so I wondering if there is a way to just use the Rumble Studio 40 for the FX only and send to either a cab, or other combo amp. Is that possible?

Looking for inputs for what is possible, or what options I have. I just need something for practice and occasional jam sessions.

Thanks!

Yeah, Dave! Without modifications you can connect an instrument cable from the Left (Mono) FX Send to the Instrument Input of another amp (whose EQ & Gain is turned down). Running that Send to an FX Return doesn't get the volume you'd normally expect. I've even run both the stereo FX Sends to separate amps' inputs for stageworthy stereo! (Just need a gig that is worthy of this 740 watt stereo rig!)

But, I'd also suggest calling your nearest Fender Authorized Service Center to discuss possible repair by them. No one else can get the proper parts.

For anyone interested, here a full Rumble stack
Stage 800 plus two 210 cabs

Made between 2021 and 2024
Each piece has different looks and tembr. Combo has a strong 100-200Hz hump, cabs have gentle 40-80Hz hump and sound more HiFi. I thought there's a HPF built for before internal speakers so I connected them to the extension cab socket instead of internal connection and sound was the same.

Vents exits are rounded in combo and sharp in cabs. For unclear reason combo has a top handle by design which I replaced with side ones, cabs have side handles by design.

Beautiful, soko! Yes, indeed, the full stack!! Up to 800 watts through 6x10" speakers!!! Awesome!

Only different looks I can see are darker dust caps on the top cab, unless it's the lighting? Did you mean the cabs have the silver grille cloth and the Stage has the black? Is that why you took them off?

Your description indicates the cabs have the same, or similar timbers, no?

The block diagram of the non-modeling 800 combo, the Stage's brother, shows an HPF just before the Delta-Comp unit. So, the Stage might also have one there, but we can't be sure.

What is the "internal connection" for the cabs? Surely you don't mean the speaker terminals! 😱 I would not even consider connecting there unless troubleshooting an extension cab socket.

Yes, I've noticed that my Rumble 500 combo has sharp edged ports, but my Rumble Studio 40 has rounded ports! Perhaps just due to different manufacturing facilities? I dunno.

7ender usually make their combo amps with top strap handles and their cabs with heavy metal side handles. Did you add those heavy metal handles to your Stage 800? If so, that'll send it over 40 lb.s!! Not sure how much. Can you weigh it and let us know?

And the Rumble cabs also have a magnetic strip in the top, between the cups for the head feet, that magnetically attach Rumble heads (and maybe others that fit the cups)!

Thanks for sharing this pic, soko. I've always wanted to see a full 3-piece 800 watt stack!

Dust caps are of different colour, brownish or deep blueish
Cones are slightly different, too
Grilles are different, however I failed to shoot a photo. Combo is less transparent and more gray and less black.

As for internal speakers:
I disasembled the amp and disconnected factory connector between speakers and an amp. Then I connected speaker cable to terminals of the top speaker and inserted the other cable end, with a jack plug, to extension speaker socket in the back panel. I did it to exclude a HPF that could apply internal speakers only. I didn't bother to read block diagram, my bad, and I had no idea whether there's a HPF that applies ONLY internal speakers.

I made a few bass cabinets and plus and minus signs and Ohms and soldering doesn't scare me away. I know people that discourage DIY but it ain't rocket science. It's ones choice to have a thing repaired by official shop for 100$ plus two weeks waiting or replace a 0.2$ capacitor on his/her own.

Handles: I added to combo same side handles that cabs have by design. Combo's to heavy to operate it with one hand only. I had some fun with a jigsaw :)

An HPF for internal speakers only, but not extension cabs, would have to be after the power amp and handle some very high voltage, which would be pretty inefficient.

You're right, it ain't brain surgery, but some of those capacitors carry a deadly charge if not properly discharged first! Also, I don't like to void any warranties with needless modifications.

This new version of the Fender Tone App is a significant upgrade and after using it for a few days, I can say that while they've followed a good path, there's still a lot of debugging and testing to be done.
The first change I noticed (you can't miss it!) is that it tries to connect to the amp. I used to be able to poke around in it without connecting to my Studio 40. Sigh. Like climbing a sand dune. One step forward. Two steps back.

So, I don't know about anyone else, but with the new version all my presets using either of the graphic equalizer pedals have reset the eq settings to flat (like all the sliders set to 0). I tried restoring from a previous backup, but even those came out flat.
There are a lot of mismatches between the amp settings and the settings displayed on the App. Those from the amp are the prevailing ones as they're the ones that are coming out of the speakers. Aparently, the amp settings are not well perceived by the App and a lot of debuging work has not been done. The sound drops that could be related with the Bluetooth connectivity are gone so that is an improvement.

So this morning I also noticed that any preset using the Studio Preamp, Studio Tube Preamp or the Rumble V3 also have all the tone controls moved to the twelve o'clock position. Very disappointed with this update in terms of what it did to our saved presets. Hopefully Fender will fix this soon, and I can get the settings back.

I've been using the rumble stage 800 daily, and I believe it has become more immune to the audio dropouts with the recent Fender Tone updates... despite the new App is still missing some features from the previous versions like the compressor settings within each amp model (these compressor settings within each amp model are available in the amp but are not replicated in the App).
But still some audio dropouts can occur with this Fender Tone update:
I realized that, when turning the power on, if a brief delay occurs, during which the Display Window will remain blank for a few seconds, the sound drops will most likely occur within the following minutes. So, I always pay attention to the startup sequence, and if this delay occurs, I need to cycle the power switch again to avoid the audio dropouts... I have also informed Fender so that they can evaluate if this makes sense…

I'm making my way through this thread so apologies if this has already been answered.

Is there any sort of IR on either of the DI out options? Meaning when I change the "speaker" preset, is that going to make any difference what is going to FOH?

According to the manual, the Post DI out will include any changes (affects, cabs, etc.) you made, if I am understanding this correctly:

"The line out default setting is two mono outputs—”PRE” (direct and unaffected signal) and “POST” (includes all onboard processing)."

Whoa! Dude! Reading all 2,000+ posts here?!? That's some extreme dedication! Have you tried using the Search function? It's not always easy, but can help sometimes. 👍

Quite right, RL. Like all amps with built-in XLR Outs, the PRE- connection has no, zero, zip, nada, models, effects, or EQ in the signal and no setting changes you make anywhere on the amp makes any difference in the FOH. Also, like other amps, the POST- connection has whatever models or effects the current preset on the amp is setup for and whatever changes you make to the current preset does make a difference in the FOH (my preference). And that PRE- & POST- setting is the default setting on the Stage & Studio XLR Outputs. Send the FOH, or recorder, either, or both! 😲

Note: Not all of the factory presets have a speaker cab model in them. But, of course, all other amp models & effects models are in the POST- connection, unless bypassed. [Individual effects in a preset can be bypassed (though not the amps), or the X FX button can globally bypass all effects in all presets (but not the amps).] 🧐

And, setting the XLR Outs to STEREO, Left and Right, puts them both in POST- mode with all models, effects & EQ the current preset is setup for, unless bypassed (else there wouldn't be any Stereo signals). 🤩

Eric, if you have a Rumble amp you should mention it in the Fender Rumble Club thread to get a free membership with keys to all Rumbling info! But please don't feel obliged to read all 58,000+ posts there!! 😉

Oh cool. I placed an order for the Stage 800 earlier this week from GC, does that get me a membership number?

This is what I'm trying to achieve as well. Let me give some more context.

The last 3 amps I've gigged/sold were the Rumble 500, MarkBass CMD Mini 121P, and the Ampeg RB210 all have a DI out, but none of them have any sort of speaker simulation or IR on the DI out, so it is much more "trebly" coming out of the DI that what the actual amp sounds like. I'm realizing this is fairly common. This is especially important to me b/c I play in a 90s rock / grunge cover band where lots of grit and drive is very common and a big part of my sound, and the grit/drive sounds very harsh with no speaker.

I then after some research came across a Sansamp BDDI v2 which is designed for this purpose basically, sending a signal to FOH simulating a mic'd cabinet, taking away a lot of that harshness from what is coming out the the PA.

I'm hoping with Fender Stage 800 that the post EQ DI out includes the IR or "mic'd cabinet" simulation so I don't have to have a separate DI pedal for that function. If not, it's not the end of the world but man that would just be so awesome if it did. I would be able to get rid of almost all the pedals I'm running currently.

I know that's a lot but sometimes I think the more details the better in these situations. TIA!

Actually, Eric, according to the Block Diagram from the Rumble 40-500 manual, the Rumble 500 combo does, indeed, have a Cab Sim circuit on the XLR Out! However, it's fixed and not adjustable, so maybe not to your taste.

I applaud the use of the Rumble Stage and Studio amps to replace external pedals! Please keep us updated here how that goes for you, Eric!

Ah ok, my mistake.

I will say that I do regret selling it. I had the least knowledge of EQ, room balance, and live sound in general when I owned the 500 and I bet if I know what I know now I could get much better sounds out of it. I think I was cutting out too many low mids making it thin, which was why I wasn't liking it as much by itself.
