Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Not sure when it was updated (again), but I just checked my app to see if I was up to date and found I'm on version 4.0.8
On the AMPEG SVT model they forgot the the 3-way switch that selects the frequency that will be affected by the
Midrange control. It is now only available on the amp's display window. I hope they fix this in a future Fender Tone App release.

Sad evening yesterday, as my 3-year-old Studio 40 didn’t power up after I’d moved it to a different part of the house after shutting it off.

LCD screen backlight lit up the screen dimly, but no boot sequence took place.

Since it’s out of warranty, opened it up and found this on the power supply board.

For now, probably going to find a Rumble v3 of x wattage while I search for a replacement PS board.
Update:

After the amp sat untouched in repair shop at work for months, I took it to the band practice room so the drummer/BL could maybe use it as trade bait with his pawn shop buddy.

The pawn shop bud found an internal reset button that brought the amp back to life. The R40 Studio has returned to its old spot as the living room amp. It operates just as it always did, connecting to the Fender Tone app, and not overwhelming the living room (sonically and visually, like the R500c can!).

Awesome news! And I'll definitely remember that switch if my Studio 40 falls prey to the same problem. Thanks for sharing!

OutSTANDing! That internal reset button is also good news. Don't suppose you could give us a photo of where it is? Nosy..., .. that is, ... enquiring minds want to know. 🤔

With apologies to all, I misunderstood what my BL described what his buddy did.

According to the BL, the guy never went under the hood… he did either the restore all or the recovery start-up routine as described in the user manual. Prior to the guy doing that reset, the info screen was grayed out, and it appeared to me that the amp was flat-out dead. Afterward, the R-S40 worked as expected.

Again, apologies for passing on erroneous info.

So, it would power up, but the LCD was very dim and otherwise didn't work, correct? I feel ashamed I didn't think of trying the manual's Restore & Recovery procedures. It's a shame you couldn't use it 'til now all this time! But better late than never. 🥴

Not that I think you need to check, but I'm just curious what the power supply board looks like now. (Could someone at the repair shop have possibly made the repair and forgot/left/didn't tell anyone/else?) 🤔

Correct. As far as I could tell, the amp never did a boot-up process. To me, no screen + passing no audio signal = dead amp. I was happy to have been wrong about that!

When I looked earlier (searching in vain for an internal reset), the power supply board looked the same as before: kind of a crusty scorched look on top of the goop/epoxy used around the components. (Photo from the original post.)

As far as forgetting the Restore/Recovery procedure, we can both take a ride of shame on a bicycle built for two… yet knowing that if we keep pedaling, we’ll keep moving forward… Rumbling! It’s all good, Mr Dog!

I'm about to begin a 6-string guitar course. As a beginner, I don't want to buy a guitar amp straightaway (looking at you Blackstar Debut 50R (creme with oxblood grill cloth)). I remember reading some comments about the Rumble 40 being a decent guitar amp. I sold my 40 when I moved to 230V land and bought a Studio 40 when I got here. I can always use the v3 Rumble preset, but does anyone have any suggestions about other Studio 40 presets that work well for guitar. Thanks in advance.

You're in great shape with the Studio 40. The Filthy Bassman preset is a killer starting point for guitar. If you want to start from scratch crafting a tone, I'd just throw on the '59 Bassman model and get busy adding effects. I like the Mythic Drive (I think it's based on a Klon?), and I try to give myself a pretty wide range from clean to dirty tones depending on my guitar's volume control. You'll just have to mess with the gain until you find your sweet spot.

I'll add the "14-Basic '59 Bass" preset to @elillywv 's list that I saved to a Google Keep note.

The tweeter in the Studio 40 should help it cope with the upper freqs from a guitar. With these preset options, I think I'll be able to live without a regular guitar amp.

I have something like 20 basses, but only one guitar, a G&L Tribute Ascari GTS in Irish Ale with the GC/MF exclusive 3rd humbucker. But...GAS hit me really hard yesterday while I was browsing Thomann.fr. I found and bought a Thomann exclusive for their 70th anniversary, a PRS SE Custom 24 with a quilted maple top in blood orange and an ebony fretboard instead of the standard rosewood. Only 70 made worldwide. Right up my collector alley.

I’ve a couple questions about the Studio 40 that I haven’t yet find answers to. Hopefully, a knowledgeable member can provide some clarity.

The Studio 40 can be connected via USB to an iMac for recording. When connected and recording, does the signal also go to the speaker, or only to the iMac?

If the signal is sent to both the iMac and the speaker, as I assume it is, is there a way to silence the speaker without interfering with the recording signal?

My thought would be to plug into the amp’s headphone jack to override the speaker. Assuming this works, would that interfere with the USB signal?

I believe you are correct in your assumptions here, Scotty-roo. The USB connection does not mute the speaker as the headphones connection does, nor does the headphones interfere with the USB. Though I have a Studio 40, I've not used it recording yet, but this is my understanding.

Gee whiz, Rumbler #240, long time no hear from! Do you still have the Rumble 200 combo, too? Did you get the 115 extension cab, or some other. Que pasa wit yo bad self?

It certainly has been a while. Thanks for the friendly welcome back! There was a period of time were I was experiencing some physical difficulties. Had to step away from playing. During that time, I parted ways with the R200C. Passed it on to a younger musician in need of a gigging amp. That felt better than keeping t as another dust collector in the house. I have since emerged from my physical struggles, and have gotten back into playing. I’ve been torn between what to get first ; an interface for recording, or a practice amp. The Studio 40 seems the logical choice, thanks to that USB. That, and bonus points for keeping me in the Rumble Club.

"Once a Rumbler, always a Rumbler!" We've had some turn in their resignation after selling their Rumble! But after it's rejected and they're hit with that motto, they usually are gratefully surprised. And many of them get another Rumble later and are pleased to already still be a member of The Club when they announce the NAD. 🤗

Has anyone here (@NordicBard maybe?) hooked up their Rumble Studio 40 to a HeadRush FRFR-112? I've been thinking about picking one of those up from Guitar Center mainly to use with my VT Bass DI, and it occurred to me that it might be a great way to make my current Rumble a lot louder without spending too much money.
