I'm honestly not sure how a Funk Machine signature would be.

Really, they'd have to have it down to specs. Yeah sure, the pickups, flatwounds, stock everything. But what about the bass itself, not just the electronics, but the bass.

He was an upright play first, so he kept is action relatively similar to that of an upright. The Funk Brothers would often joke 'that you needed two guys to play a Bb' (incredible when you listen to some of the tracks and think of his action at the same time). Also, the neck was warped to the point of 'wow...This is garbage'. Obviously they wouldn't release the warped neck.

I've got experience on an upright, so it wouldn't be too too hard to play, but what about the majority of bassists who don't? I don't think Fender would bother. It would just be a 62' reissue anyway, and the modifications Jamerson made (sustain, action, et cetera) are something any player could do.


I would like to see either a Phil Lynot signature bass, or a Paul Deacon signature bass. I'd never buy either of them, and odds are they wouldn't make it to Canada for a bit. But that's just me.

i have seen quite few ramones live videos and alot of them dee dee was switching from black and tort. im not sure if it was 2 different basses or what.

I like John Deacon a lot. He never gets enough credit. I doubt that he would be interested in having a signature model. These days he is more of a recluse.

I would like a berry oakley sig. but i feel like i would rather build one like berry did. I know some people on here have done it. I'm also pretty sure the fender custom shop made a few of them and berry oakley jr. got one.

In that picture it really does look red. I never built it to look like dee dee's bass I just liked the tort on white color combo later i was watching a ramones live dvd that had live recordings from like 76 to like 1996. and there was 4 basses he was switching from the white p bass with black pickguard. The white with red pickuguard one which i know for a fact he has more then one of. And the white with tort pickguard and what I think was a dan electro im not really sure its in the i dont wanna grow up video.

Jamerson's funk machine would have to be specially made with a warped/bowed neck, action that is too high, and old strings.

And to make sure that nobody took away from the Jamerson vibe of the nearly unplayability of the bass, Fender would have to disable the truss rod, make the bridge un-adjustable, and make the strings unchangeable, less somebody might try to *gasp* set up the bass.

There's a chance that Fender may make a Bob Babbitt Signature Precision: RW/Olympic White, Bassmutes and a custom neck profile. He plays a prototype of it in some of the PJB youtube videos. And yes, I would definitely be interested in it...

Since when has that EVER stopped Fender from cashing in on a new model release with a higher price tag?

Read wiki page on dee dee , he had alot of different P basses.

Sid has a squier , they just dont say its a sid sig, but it is.

As stated a 62 reissue is a jamerson P bass.

well all that matters is if you like the look no matter what pickguard is on it, but i remember a long time ago reading an article about him in either guitar player or musician mag that said he replaces the black pickguard with his trademark red ones.

Dylan was cool as heck . That he wasn't even a bassist is irrelevant . They could also put out an Elvis Presley Pbass too .
