Fender Vintera III Sunburst - why no wood grain?

If no wood grain was good enough for Entwistle, then it's good enough for me.

I’m noticing the Vintera III sunbursts have a very narrow band of black at the edges. I think it’s to leave more room for a substantial red band to give more of a “clown burst” aka “target burst” effect. Debatable whether they have succeeded at this imho… looks a little neither here nor there to me. As in, I don’t like how it looks AND I don’t think it looks like the burst finishes of the eras they are emulating. There’s some variance, so some look better than others for sure. But I definitely wouldn’t order one sight unseen.
