Fender Vintera Jazz deal at Amazon

Rolled the dice and ordered the 60's Jazz Vintera in Firemist Gold for $539.15. That price was with an $80 gift card to sign up for Amazon Prime Store card which has zero interest for 6 months, like Paypal. Prime Store Card is handy since Amazon doesn't allow Paypal for transactions.

3 things threw me for a loop: The reverse tuners... which is no big deal. Never owned a bass with reverse tuners. The saddle screws.... they feature tiny flathead instead of hex. My first bass with flathead saddle screws. Why does Fender include hex wrenches with Vintera? Hexes are useless with this bass. The hidden truss rod that has to be accessed by loosening screws on neck. I don't understand why Fender doesn't use modern top neck truss rod access on their vintage reissues. Who cares if the truss rod access ain't like the originals? I found a YouTube video that explained how to access truss rod.

The action was extremely high (for my taste) out of the box and was higher than my Indonesian-made Sire, G&L Tributes, Sterling Stingray and Ibanez Talman's action out of the box. Saddles were set really high. Lowered the saddles and discovered the relief was too extreme and the neck needed flattened out. Performed the quarter turn on truss rod which required a phillips screwdriver. Was able to get low action without buzzing to my preference. Checked frets... they were all level. Finish was perfect.

So far, I'm totally happy with it. Sounds damn good through my Rumble amp. Kinda irritated that saddle screws were tiny flathead and truss rod required a philips. I don't understand the logic in that, but I'm sure Fender had their reasons to do this in the 1960's. For a bass, that normally costs $900+.... this was a good deal I couldn't pass up.

I've noticed the Vintera neck pickup dimed/solo'ed or with a little bridge pickup mixed in.... sounds a lot like a P bass, more so than the other J basses I've owned in the past. I can play Jane's Addiction riffs with Vintera/EB Cobalt flats... and it sounds damn close to a P. That is freakin' cool.

I can also get approximate Geddy Lee sounds with the bridge pickup. Nice.

Same here. Very P like with the neck soloed. Nice and meaty. These pups are staying, they sound really good. I’m in the process of installing a series / parallel switch, though. I’ll report back.

Dang it! Luckily I have a Jazz already but, boy, that's some deal! Getting my Dakota Red P tomorrow. Says it comes with a "deluxe" gig bag. I can't wait...

The Bar Band Bassman

I just noticed that the one I ordered comes with the "deluxe gig bag" as well. How is the quality of this and would you post a pic, please?

Long story but mine had quality issues. I returned it. But it did come with a nice gigbag. Better than the F405 style. I will be getting a replacement soon. Another, even longer story.

Here's the gig bag that was included with my 60's Vintera J. It's exactly like the gig bag I got with my Duff McKagan signature P-bass. It's an above average gig bag, IMO. Better than $40 generic Fender gig bags, but not as good as $100+ elite gig bags Mono, Gator, etc.

Ordered a 70's Vintera (silver)...The first one I received had quality issues as well. Returned it and ordered another just to give it one more chance as the price is very attractive. Received that one and it's worlds better. A slightly high fret or two in the neck pocket, however, I can clean those up. Only negative with it is the weight... just a hair over 10 lbs. I can deal w it, but I wish it was closer to 9 lbs... Stil a great deal for a great bass!

Aces! Thanks for the pic. Looks like it'll do nicely as I do not plan on schlepping and if I do, I have other HSCs that I can use.

I ended up buying the $650 Mustang from Adorama. I checked back today to see if the price had gone back up yet (lol) and no, it's still available. Sweet bass! Invalid Link Removed

What caused me to come back to re-post is for the first time today I noticed that the Vintera P was available in red for $549 and sea foam for $599 Invalid Link Removed

And the gold Vintera Jazz is available for $599 Invalid Link Removed

My gold Jazz is vying for top spot in my collection. I am seriously tempted by both the red P and the Strat lol - but I have already bought 2 of these (and 3 basses total) since black Friday. Why does Fender (&Amazon/Adorama) have to do this to us?

Just a public service announcement for those who missed out. Carry on!

the P bass is back up to $1,099.99 - my wallet is safe!

the J is still $599, and for those who wonder, i've always been very happy with the customer service at adorama, although i mostly buy camera gear there.

Well, the Vintera '70s arrived today. The box was re-taped but not because it had been opened. The finish on the upper horn was scraped and the neck had a front-bow that could not be corrected with the truss rod. So back it went.

To be honest I am more than a little relieved. As it stands, I have two, extremely serviceable basses.
I'm wondering if that's the one I sent back. I posted a picture of the serial number earlier in this thread telling others to avoid that one.
