Fender Vintera Jazz deal at Amazon

Congrats - I have to wait 'til Friday apparently. I can't wait!

What do you think?

Bummed I missed the red P or I would have bought that too! The silver 70s Jazz looks like the only one still available.
Hey thanks man. It’s a pretty darn good Jazz bass, not a single complaint. I did a quick set up, truss tweak / bridge / pickup height and this thing plays and sounds great. I’ll get into fine tuning it in a few days once it settles. I figured I’d be doing a pup swap, but these sound pretty nice. They grunt, growl, burp, and sizzle like a Jazz should. Nice low end, not weak, and virtually no hum. Not sure what they are, but I think they’re staying. Neck is super nice, very much like an early 60s jazz, not too skinny, not too fat. Fit and finish is really quite good. I love the firemist gold, it’s a very nice metallic, imo. I think I lucked out and got a darker board than most pau farro I’ve seen. It’s pretty close to rosewood only a bit lighter. A little oil and it’ll darken up.

All in all, the best $538 I’ve spent in a while. I hope you like your’s as much as I do! Also, yeah it was hard for me to pass on the red P… I gotta lotta P basses, thought I’d not horde and leave one for someone else to buy and enjoy. Sorry you missed out on one.

Edit: frets are well done, trimmed properly, minimal dressing required if at all.

$538? I paid $587! I was robbed! But I did use a 5% cash back on Amazon card, so it's closer to $558.

I think the red p bass was $538 and I hesitated on it because I picked up the late 50s Squier P black friday deal from Fender ($280) and really like it - but of course I slept on it and it was gone. No regrets, but I am sure that those of you who got that P got an amazing instrument!

Prior to this month I lacked a standard P and J in my collection; the only other J I have is a fretless that I built with a Mexican neck and Squier CV body and everything else top quality - but it is a fretless! I need that funky fretty J in my life.

I really do like my 50s P - I was unsure about the gold pickguard (someone in this thread questioned it as well) but it looks beautiful in real life and helped sell the gold bass thing to me. I have never been a "gold" person - but I do find both of these instruments to be captivating. Looks like 2024 will be a golden year...

I'll post a pic and give an update here when mine shows up as well!

Photos probably don’t capture the character of the gold PG… best to see it in person!

Your comment is encouraging me to let the gold on Dakota Red be itself! (Of the 5 basses I have, 4 have black PGs, 1 has white; time for me to break the pattern!)

Update: I picked up a tidepool player jaguar for $524. It just arrived and is in great shape, plays nice out of the box. Won't be able to plug it in till later. However, beware that Amazon's product page (here) shows a picture of a gig bag and this did not come with one (the reviews show others didn't get one either). I don't really care - I have a giant stack of gig bags, but I am on the customer chat with Amazon right now asking them to fix the page. If I had known I would have brought a gig bag to work so I could bring this baby home; looks like it's staying here for the weekend.

EDIT: They issued me a 20% refund!! So the grand total I paid for this $800 bass is now $404! Deal of the century. Don't know if it would work in the future, maybe I got an extra nice customer service rep. I didn't ask for a refund, I just said I wasn't returning it, and I would like them to fix the page, and "if they wanted" they could refund me the value of the gig bag, lol.

Ok it actually arrived yesterday in a comically oversized outer box.

It is really beautiful! Like everyone else I much prefer rosewood to Pau Ferro, and the fingerboard does seem a little lighter shaded than I would like - but it does look dry and this will probably change when I hit it with some Howard's feed n' wax. It has the potential to be beautiful wood and a good match for the gold/tort

Otherwise it came out of he box just like every poor bass on the wall at GC - not set up and with horrible action! I have put it through 1 round of truss rod adjustment and think it is due for another half turn and a little more setup attention before I really get a sense of how well it feels. I do tend to prefer basses where I don't have to pull the neck to adjust the truss rod, but these Fenders do seem to stay put once adjusted!

It does seem solidly made and feels and sounds like a J bass should. I love the looks of it. I mentioned that I have never been a "gold" person, and this last couple of weeks I have gotten 2 golden basses: this Vintera Jazz as well as a CV Squier Late 50s P. The Squier came out of the box, I tuned it up, and it has played like butter ever since. The Fender will need a bit more TLC - but I am sure that once set it will be exactly what I was needing in my collection.

here is an early family portrait of my 2 newest basses. I paid $558 (Fender) and $266 for the Squier, so $824 for both (I saved a little more as I had 5% cash back deals from my bank), and filled 2 holes in my collection: for a "standard" P and J. My next bass phase will be my Golden Years...

EDIT: Ok I ran out of time last night and was super busy today, but after spending 10 more minutes on setup (1/4 turn truss rod, adjust saddle height) this thing has unbelievably low action. What a fantastic player! It looks much better with all the plastic off

It's almost enough to make me pick up the 70s Jazz (still $612 on Amz) - but the only Fender model I still can justify is a Mustang :D And I can't do the JMJ one for 890 right now, no matter how good a deal it is lol

Niiice. Yep, my board darkened up with a bit of oil. Enjoy!

Well, avoid this one. Just got it. She's going back go Amazon. Did a setup and a few things:

- frets near and in the neck pocket are a bit uneven (#16 and higher). Can only get the action to "medium low" before some serious fretting-out occurs (on all strings).
- to get the substantial relief out of the neck, I had to go somewhere around 3/4 of a turn or more. Then the rod felt pretty maxed-out. Didn't want to push it. Still a bit of relief left in the neck, even w the rod maxed.
- to "Fender's credit", they sure nailed one aspect of many late-70's Fenders...the gap between the neck pocket and neck (on the low side) ;) . You can probably fit two business cards in there...

I ordered another and hopefully, that one will be significantly better. Hoping this one was just a fluke... Anyway, here is the serial number off the box. You don't want this one!

Bummer! Hopefully the exchange process was simple, and better luck with the next one! My 60s J just keeps impressing me more and more, so once you get a workable one it will be worth it!

That 70s is back up in price, so it looks like the Amazon sale is over. Happy holidays everyone!
