Putting together a Build-A-P...

Fender Fiesta Red '50's P body
Warmoth Maple/Maple Fender P neck (70's Fender decal)
Bill Lawrence P-46 pickups
GOTOH 201 Bridge
Probably Sadowsky Blue Nickel strings.

Question is what do you guys think for a Pickguard Color?

My first thought was Red Tort (kinda like a maple board version of a Pino...).

Other thoughts would be maybe a pearloid or parchment.

I've seen some black's which are kinda cool as well...

I've looked and looked on the threads to see any with the tort guard configuration but have come up empty...

Any Pics out there with this combination, and/or other ideas (besides the Aluminum..)

Last, I saw on one thread where someone stated that a Standard Fender P Pickguard would not fit on these MIM 50's models... Any perspectives on that from you guys????

I'll post picks when completed...

3-ply cream
3-ply black
black pearloid
red pearl

On my recently accquired 50's Precision (pics to come :)) I bought a black 3-ply pickguard for it.

The standard pickguard is gold anodized aluminium, with 10 screw holes. The aftermarket one has 13 in the standard Fender configuration.

9 holes lined up fine, however the 50's P has the 10th on the bottom edge inbetween the volume and tone pots, whereas on the standard configuration there are 2 screw locations near to each pot.

But with a couple of more holes drilled it would have fitted perfectly.

In reference to your original question, I'd personally go for either a 3-ply white or mint :bassist:

Hope this helps :)

black. this example (Noah, from the Airborne Toxic Event) looks more like a chrome red, and i believe it's a 70's p, but the color combo is perfect. i think it would work well w/ fiesta red as well, though any of the traditional colors would also look good (tort, white, parchment, mint)

Great inputs folks! Thank you duffisgod for the data on the hole placements... Sounds like a couple extra holes will need to be drilled into the body to enable the Standard P guards from fitting. Shouldn't be a problem. Thank you Adrian for the photo of the specific combination in question...I do like it very much!

If any one has any other illustrative pics for the Fiesta Red / Maple combination, please post 'em!

She turned out better then expected!

Good balance and the tone on the Bill Lawrence is fantastic!

GOTOH 201 bridge, Warmoth maple/maple Precision neck with some shape down from the original. Got a '62 re-issue pick guard off of eBay.

She's a Keeper!
