FIFA World Cup 2014

She says the most inflammatory things she can. It sells. Maybe she's feminine away from the camera who cares.
Not a real American & showing moral decay right--every child in the U.S. can play futbol & it's one of the few team sports that girls can participate in from a young age through college & in the Olympics. All of my American sisters played soccer coulter needs to keep her poison to herself. Back to the beautiful game.

Well done Algeria, you were a credit.

On the prediction game we are still playing of course, we go to the bitter end!
I'll put up the list for the next set shortly.
The games are thick and fast following the round so keep your eyes open lads! :)

The Mexican manager blew it. As soon as they scored, he tried to defend a one goal lead for 40 minutes, which is just suicide. Holland deserved to win in the end, even with the dubious penalty (I thought they should have had one earlier anyway).

It's worse then that, since this manager took over it was clear that the team only functioned well on attack, and played poorly when playing back to defend a lead. It was clear during all the pre-tournament friendlies and clear during the opening match vs Cameroon. Once they decided to play for the counter against Holland I knew it was over.

I agree, and if referees stopped giving penalties when players dive like that, they'd stop doing it. After all, it's the refs who are being conned, so whether there's contact or not, there's no way of knowing if it would have slowed the player down one bit, let alone actually brought him down. This exaggerated diving when players feel the slightest contact has become so bad that commentators call it "clever play". Honestly, they feel the slightest touch and it looks like they've been shot with a high powered rifle.

If they react like that, the refs shouldn't ever give them the decision even if there is contact, and they should book them (in and out of the penalty box). That's the only way to put a stop to what is the worst aspect of the modern game - it honestly drives me mad.

I agree with all of this, but it needs to be stated in the laws of the game rather than up to indiviual referees and how they choose to call things. One of the biggest problems with the sport is the extent to which referees are free to interpret the laws however they see fit. This opens a huge door to cheating. One minute they give Germany a penalty for a handball because the defender's arm was away from his body, the next minute they're taking away a penalty from a minnow because the German did "not intend" to play the ball with his hand. As if a referee is a mind reader. These kind of iffy calls always go to the big team and it needs to stop. You can't have fair play if no one knows what the rules are.

Chuck!
Step away from the beer!

You have already put in your predictions for all of the last 16!

The full quarter finals predictions list will be up tomorrow after the second game so that everyone can put their predictions in in plenty of time.
