I heard that on the radio. Just when you thought this WC couldn't get any weirder - with all the soap opera scenes on and off the pitch, FIFA is starting to look more like WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment - home of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, etc). What's next, chairs cracked over people's heads, swinging off the crossbar to kick someone in the head, grabbing the corner flag and whipping the nearest defender.

I would hope that FIFA can do an expedited appeal. I can't imagine what would change. In US sports, an appeal sometimes results in a slightly shorter suspension if you can show where similar cases received more lenient treatment, but since there are no other 3-time biters out there, I don't know what his grounds for appeal would be. This suspension doesn't strike me as too long, he should start to rehabilitate his image by taking the punishment with some grace and humility.

Although Uruguay can appeal the decision, it will not stop Suárez being banned from Saturday’s match because under article 124 of the Fifa disciplinary code it does not have a “suspensive effect”.

I was going to say, all previous similar cases involved him anyway, and prove the smaller punishments didn't work.
