The title of the thread is "Finally a "tele" style bass body." and I have never seen a double-cut Tele in my life.
This thread is about body style, not whether or not a bass is a Telecaster or whatnot.
I have. Saw Fly Amero (Orleans) playing a modified right handed Tele, flipped over and the upper horn cut away to make a double cut.
Kind of odd looking, but he's a lefty who plays guitars strung for a righty so...
Yea, most of us know the Fender Telecaster Bass. I wasn't talking about the Telecaster Bass. My original post was refering to the telecaster body style. Meaning the single cut guitar body. And when I say "Meaning the single cut guitar body" I'm referring to the shape of the Fender telecaster guitar body. Most of us picked up on it. Everyone on the same page now?

i think G&L does this body style well (especialy with the F Hole) and i really dont like G&Ls. but what do i know, i like Les Paul basses as well.
I was looking at those bodies. A&D makes some good stuff. They are another one that looks like they extend the dimensions in some kind of way, or is it me? Beautiful either way. I'd give that a light 2 tone burst.
I have a no-name tele body and an sx short scale maple-with-black-dot bass neck waiting to be married.

Every time you post this, I get GAS chills, can't wait for Warmoth to start doing 30" scale necks, so I can make one like it, with a maple board, if it was possible to do a 5er one, with a high C, I'd do that too.Yea, I made one of those last year for my girlfriends daughter. Mine was shortscale, and so was Tim's. I've kinda always wanted a full scale one since then.

Because Leo figured out real fast that using the Tele body style on a 34" scale bass would put the strap in a place where the first fret is uncomfortably far away for most players. The elongated horn on the original P bass was to balance the body. It's by Leo, so form and fashion follow function.
And I always took that ASAT body bass as indication that Leo was out of the picture as far as marketing and design was concerned with G&L by that time. He wouldn't have made a bass that was so awkward to play.
Ultimately, THIS is what counts. But, going back to your original question (why Fender never did it), is probably because there isn't a big enough market for it.It's probably not for everyone, but I like it.

The bassist for a band I hung around in the 80's had an original Tele and I was blown away by the sound from one small pup...I love the shape of the body and head. If I could afford to buy a old mint bass I would be torn between one and a Rick.
Like anything else, the tele body style looks weird if you're accustomed to seeing something different. If you were used to 90% tele bodies, then one day saw a J, it would look absolutely goofy. On the tele, the upper horn could be seen as a hump. Or you could see in it a foil to the cut-out of the lower horn. It's an integral, harmonious design element. Let your eye follow the curve that starts at the upper bout, flows around the hump, and is taken up on the lowerside of the neck and continues around the lower horn. Nice, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure that the Fender Bass V (I'm guessing you're bassing the 30" with high C off this) was actually full scale. The neck was just short because the Mustang-style body was elongated.
Still, I've never heard a 30" bass with a high-C. Might be a preference thing.
Nope, nothing to do with the Bass V, nothing at all, and yes, that was full scale.
I'd just like to try a shortscale 5er, with a high C, rather than a low B.
I love that bass. I would like to have a tele bass but my Precision weighs a ton. I suspect the tele although not a neck diver may weigh a ton as well, unless you can get a nice light weight sounding wood. Maybe you can sand the body and do away w the "slab" appearance which would make it lighter. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

?So after seeing "The Hoss" I went on a search to find some pics of it in it's previous life. That guitar body has been through a bunch of incarnations over the past 10 years or so(edit: after thinking about it , more like 15 years now..Getting old I guess!)
