I've always wondered why Fender never made a bass using the telecaster body style. I know G&L had something tele style, and I think schecter had a variation. It's probably not for everyone, but I like it.

Personally, I can't stand the Telecaster shape, guitar or bass, but that's just me.

same, i always loved a Les Paul guitar but seeing it as a bass was just kinda disappointing
I think the G&L your taking about is the ASAT.

Tim Armstrong's Custom Made........ "The Hoss"
Yea, I made one of those last year for my girlfriends daughter. Mine was shortscale, and so was Tim's. I've kinda always wanted a full scale one since then.

The 1968 to 1972 Telecaster was a reissue of the first electric bass guitar. The 1951 Fender Precision Bass. As the Telecaster it had a different name and color combination. Off-white nitro-cellulose finish and white pickguard. I have one. It's in my sig line.
They also offer a Sting model (1957? P-bass) and the '51 Precision. I asked the same question today but missed this model. Now Fender needs to offer the 1968 color combo with the Telecaster decal on the headstock.

I have never had a problem with neck dive on my bass. The body is heavy enough.
Here's a Wiki page on the Telecaster Bass history:

Been there, done that.
