Finally Listened to Vulfpeck - Wow!

I had heard people talk highly of Joe Dart, and I had watched a few clips before. I just today looked up Vulfpeck to stream some of their music. Wow, I am impressed. I am usually not a big funk/soul listener. Some songs I love, but a lot is boring to me. Vulfpeck has been all good so far.

Hearing Joe Dart in the context of the band, I appreciate why people like him. I like the clean mix that Vulfpeck uses. Individual instruments stand out, and keeps it feeling upbeat. Joe has amazing control of dynamics in his playing.

Back to listening.

Joe Dart is great!
Haha I wanted to dislike Vulfpeck for being too clever when I first discovered them (via the Goodhertz Vulf Compressor Plugin, no less)...
But they are so good, and their enjoyment of what they do really comes through in the music!
All the players in & around Vulfpeck & Fearless Flyers are fantastic, particularly Nate Smith on drums.

I get that. As I wrote sveral years ago in this post

"Vulfpeck's musicianship is certainly irreproachable, and I do enjoy them far more than I do many other bands known for their irreproachable musicianship

...but I still find them ultimately a bit unsatisfying to listen to. They strike me as a bunch of really nice fun guys who are having an absolute blast playing together, but it's not a contagious sort of fun; it comes across as insular, like they're all sharing an inside joke that the listener is not privy to. There's almost an inherent smugness to their fun."
