I went to Finland with the creator of this thread this year, and she now says that I can be considered an honorary Finn because of this.

Her family is also from Savonlinna, to the poster above me. We were there for nearly the entirety of the opera festival in Olavinlinna this year, so that was fun.

Now, the OP will have to actually log in and give me a number...*cough*.

Finland was great this year. The weather was lovely all summer. I miss the warmth... it's been cloudy and 60 degrees for the past week here in CT.
I hope everyone else is doing well, since I haven't been on for a while.

Much respect to the Finnish players. Finland has long had a tradition of fine music and musicians.

Of course the late Pekka Pohjola will long be remembered as *the* Finnish bass player. Other favorite acts of mine are Kingston Wall from the 90's and solo accordian (yes, accordian) artist Kimmo Pohjonen.

I was working with Kimmo on one of his live gigs last summer. His set up and live surround sound is just unreal. his albums are good but his stuff works much better live. Great musician and hell of a nice guy too!

I remember being really impressed by his live show when he opened for Fantomas, and that was 12 years ago... It would be cool to see him perform again.
