Here's a somewhat related question...
I just partritioned my harddrive and I am using a new strategy to deal with a slow browser... possible virus situation. What I did was partrition a new drive with 6 gigs. It will be dedicated soley to my browser. My thinking is that I will use the rest of the harddrive (100 gigs +) for storage and applications and this bit only for the browser. If any viruses etc infect that browser driver I can just re-format the 6 gig harddrive and start from scratch with a new browser. I was using Opera before and lately it was acting REALLY slow. I just setup the latest version of firefox on the smaller 6 gig drive.
Any downsides to this or reason it wont work like I hope?

6 gigabytes is kind of a lot for a browser. I'd think 100 megabytes would be plenty. But in any case, a virus that infected only your browser wouldn't be much use. I don't think this will be effective.
I like FF3, though it took me a while to figure out how to make YouTube work properly on the Linux version. Also, the "oldbar" add-on is a must if you hate the way they've screwed up the address bar drop-down in the newest version.

I've had one problem, and it was that I couldn't type in a text box. One update and it's worked fine ever since.

I think the memory management and security features of Chrome will beat FF's.
While I'm excited for Chrome, too, keep in mind that there's really nothing revoultionary about it. Opera has been doing all of that for a while now, and IE8 has been doing it since the beta was released.

I know it isn't super revolutionary, but it seems like it will much more successful than Opera. I'm actually watching the live stream of the press conference from Google HQ right now, since I'm a huge damn nerd apparently

Of course it will be - Opera can't possibly compete with the market presence that Google has. Everyone everywhere knows Google, so they'll hear about Chrome. Opera is a well-known piece of software among "computer people", but they won't have the hype of coming from Google. Google could take a dump on a silver platter and the web community would be falling all over it.
That probably came out more cynical than I meant it to be, but it's the truth.
