First Bar/club gig in less than 2 hours...

We have played parties, and some other stuff...but this is the first bar/club gig thta this band has played...and my first one ever!!!!

Got everything all set up and soundchecked this afternoon...went to dinner with my wife (just got back) and am just about go walk out the door...so I thought I would share...I will report back...tomorrow.

Well, I just got home...still a little amped so I thought I would add some info...

We played 4 full sets, and had them dancing from the first verse of the first song. Damn...I even ended up singing a song. Everything could not have been better...yes I made a few little mistakes, so did everyone in the band. But nobody noticed...it was freaking GREAT!!!!!

Anyhow, thanks for the support TBers, and thanks for helping my addiction.

Congratulations. It really is an indescribable feeling just starting to play out.

You have tons of fun ahead.

Don't ever worry about the clams. 99.99% of the people in the building can't tell the difference between a clam and a stroke of genius. :)

We've reviewed video of gigs we played where we knew we'd made mistakes, and had stage sound problems, and sometimes thought we'd particularly sucked: bizarrely, it's hard for US to spot the "clams" in the video, which means that for certain the audience noticed nothing. Anyways: congrats to the OP--it just gets more fun! (Except the load-in...that never gets more fun).

Congrats. You survived your first bar gig and had a great time playing it. Keep at it and have fun, but do be cautious as each bar and club can be different and doing your local bar and club circuit can be as adventurous and dangerous as a wild game safari. Trust me when I say that you will meet some rather colorful and strange characters along the way. However the good gigs more than make up for the bad ones. Indeed any good gig is a lot of fun. Once again congrats.

Yeah, it's funny how much age can sneak up on a person.

I used to think I was a bassist who had to schlep his own gear. Years later I've come to learn that I'm really a roadie who gets to play bass now and then. ;)

It all affects what I'm willing to haul.

What I would haul 10 years ago is very different than what I would haul today.

I started off with a stack and ended up with a combo.
If people can't hear me, fuhgettaboutit.
Next step after that is either PA support - or - not being heard.

The tear down isn't bad for us. All the PA equipment belongs to the drummer and he is VERY ANAL about things, so he just tells us to get all the cables into the bins and he will sort everything out the next day.

As for my equipment...I have a 210 Marshall Combo and a 115 cab, I am loaded or unloaded in a few small trips. Only problem with that is I am then in charge of loading the trailer (since I helped design its layout for everything).

Oh well, I had a great time...still running through everything in my head, and am now looking forward to our next one!!!!!!!!

It is amazing how fast this has all come about...I started seriously playing only about 1-1/2 years ago...have only been in this band for about 6 months...and the comments we have gotten back are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of years ago...I would have NEVER thought I would be playing live in a band.

Funny how life takes twists and turns...Either way, I am having more fun than you should have...fully clothed!!!!:bassist::bassist:
