First Bass

We'll be glad to help. How much money can you spend and what kind of music do you intend to play? I would suggest not buying the cheapest bass you can find. Buy a bass which is comfortable for you because nobody likes to play a bass they don't really feel comfortable with. If you don't really like it you won't want to play it.

Oh yeah. Find a store with good customer service. You'll probably want them to set it up for you after you buy it as part of the purchase price and maybe throw in a new set of strings.

Go for a MIM* Fender or a Squier. Make sure you TRY THEM OUT though. Get one that feels good to you and sounds decent. Also look for an Ibanez GSR200 or something, those are good starter basses too.

*MIM = Made In Mexico. They are the cheapest Fenders. I'm not too sure, but I think on the back of the headstock it will have MIM in the serial #, but I'm not entirely sure.
