First impressions: Valenti 5 string

A piece of a toothpick, elmer wood glue and paitence overnight is all you need to fix that. :)

I've had people bring in basses that the screw got threaded incorrectly into the insert (and of course, tthey tried to force the screw in) and they had too pull the whole insert out and it had to be re-installed.

I know a few people that have cracked their neck heels installing the inserts incorrectly. :crying:

Again, I see no benifit besides being different from the norm. :)

Holy Crap! When did Nordstrand make those type of pickups. I have been looking everywhere for those. The Rio Grande version don't have covers and the Aero wouldn't work either (I wanted a simple 4 wire, coil tappable JJ set).

They have the classic jazz tone in spades when in single coil mode. I wish that my Nordstrand had these pickups. They absolutely nail the tone of my Jazz Geddy Lee.

IMO, I'm not actually a fan of the aesthetics...the colours just don't seem "right." A white pearloid pickguard would really set that baby off, though! I'm kinda drooling at the thought...towel, anyone?

On the other hand, getting such an in-depth review of a Valenti is a rare treat! Thanks Embellisher (and thanks to Nino for building such great basses.)

Sweet bass! I'd pick some slightly different colors, but I like the lines.

The only thing I would like to see would be a passive tone control. I have another bass with the OBP-1 and it sounds great, but sometimes I'd like to get a less bright sound. Actually, I finally found a stacked pot that can be used for the Aguilar, so I just need to get someone to install that and put in a passive tone control.

Initially, I didn't like the Valentini headstock that much. But I kinda like the looks of it in a 4+1 configuration. Oh well, a headstock wouldn't keep me from getting a killer bass, nor a color.

Again, very nice bass. What's the ballpark "damage" for that bass?

Yeah a passive tone would be a good idea, especially with coil taps. Regarding the headstock shape, I think it looks fine. It's different, but not ugly.
Anyway, I'm selling a '70s FSR Jazz and I'm torn between ordering a '75 Jazz sight unseen, or one of these puppies. The reinforced neck is a big plus IMO. I hate bowed necks. HATE THEM :mad:

how do the pole pieces line up with the strings and the 3/4" spacing? I know alot of jazz basses I have seen have pole pieces a bit off center compared to the strings. Can't tell from this shot because it is at an angle.

Didn't realize I was subscribed to this thread. I really like that bass, definitely the coolest thing Nino has done IMO. Not necessarily my style, but it's unique and cool...kind of Roscoe Beck meets Sadowsky with a dash of Fodera. I'm interested in hearing Emb.'s thoughts too. If I was into 5-string Fender-styles I'd order up a black one right quick.
