First time changing pickups, need help

So I'm changing pickups on P/J and im replacing the jazz pickup

I was following the Seymour suncan wiring diagrams but the jazz is put onto the neck pot on my bass instead of the bridge pot that it shows on the SD wiring diagram

I'm a little confused

btw sorry for the picture its the best i can get

also whats that metal thing off the jazz pickup that won't fit through the hole so what do i do with it?

Im soldering it tomorrow basically the black wires for both pickups were on the neck.

should i resolder the new pickup to where it was before

or do what the seymour duncan wiring diagram does and wire it to the bridge pickup, I just don't want to screw up lol

The black wires are grounds, they can go anywhere so long as they are electrically continuous at 0 ohms.

You can solder to either pot.
