First time for me - back to back gigs

Check out my upcoming weekend...
Friday - private party in the p.m.
Saturday- fly to Georgia at 8a.m. For a same day concert. Fly back at 6a.m. Sunday.
Sunday- Arrive at 8:30. Drive straight from the airport to do a 12-4 local gig. Pack the gear and Drive to the next town and do a 6-10 gig.
Monday 6-10 house gig
Tues- 7-10 house gig
Wednesday sleep.

Buried somewhere in the threads here, is a post several years ago where I played three in one day, and another one Sunday morning, for a total of 4 within a 24 hour period.

That was a personal record, and a monumentally stupid idea, and will not be repeated. :dead:

I feel you - had a wedding then a party yesterday (both outdoors in 95º of course).
I had 1 hour between. Fortunately someone else ran sound for the first gig, so there wasn't that much to strike. I had my PA pre-loaded in my car for the second.
I felt pretty good on the first break, but my second wind ran out before they finally let us pack up around 10pm. Pitch dark, dead dog tired... this is the life.

At lunchtime, we played the parking lot of the Harley-Davidson dealership in Manchester. They're running a series of promotional weekends with bands, food, and free rides to try out the bikes.

That was from 11:30 to 3:15. We've always been a band that took our time setting up and striking, but this time we had to break it all down, drive half an hour, and set back up for a private party in Weare (pronounced "where," leading to endless dad jokes), and play again 6 to 9. But we got it all done with time to spare.

The second gig was a graduation party for Dawson, who is apparently a big Tom Petty fan, so we got him up toward the end to sing "American Girl." He... um... gave it the old college try.

He also had a buddy who's a budding guitarist. We stopped at 9 for fireworks and he borrowed one of Pete's guitars (with permission) to go Hendrix...

I have back to backs on a monthly basis - morning (x2) and evening church services. I get up at 4:45 AM, go to the first gig - rehearsal, run through, 2 services, pack up my rig (the morning gig is ampless), then drive home.

I have about an hour for lunch and a walk, then I pack up a completely different set of gear (including a couple class d heads and a cab), drive to the second gig, rehearse, one service, pack up the second rig, and.....I get home about 9 PM. Not a late night, but given the early start, it's a very long day.

Back in my *ahem* younger days, we had a standing double Saturday night gig. 8-12 at one spot (held about 1200 people) and walked through a door and played 12-3 in basically the same building but different room. Big room served drinks, etc., smaller room was BYOB. We held that gig for over a year.

I would not do that again.

My previous band played Bluegrass and Americana. Over a 5 year period we played two gigs on the same day several times. It was usually on a Saturday, and involved driving some distance to get to the second gig. On a couple of occassions the day started with an annual gardening and craft event in the woods, then a 50 mile drive to an outdoor concert at a regional arboretum. Of course, it was hot and humid as the Midwest usually is in the Summer. By the end of the day, about 9pm, it was time to sit in the car for about 30 minutes with the AC on full, and a cool caffinated drink before driving another 50 miles to get home.
