First time I've got to say this about Ibanez...

I don't really understand the animosity a lot of folks here are aiming at Ibanez. Anyone has the right to produce something and attempt to sell it for however much they think they might be able to get for it. If you cannot afford this bass (I certainly can't), then you are not in the demographic segment they are aiming at with their offering. Neither am I. That demographic does exist, though, else companies like Alembic wouldn't be able to stay in business. Ibanez wants to see if they can play in that sandbox (BTW, $7K is the cheap end of that sandbox if Alembic is the standard). More power to them and I wish them luck.

Is it animosity? I think there's just some surprise. I wasn't aware that other Signature custom Ibanez models had been released in the past at this price point.

Yes, animosity. I have seen the words "gouging" and "stupid" in here. I think Ibanez just wants to test the waters in the high end market which they haven't participated in yet. So, it's the first time. Surprise!
Yeah, after reading Mr. Nittys post and others, I'd have to agree with you. One shouldn't poo poo the value of anything until one has personal experience with it. Hey if Sadowsky can get their bodies from Warmouth and charge what they charge for a bass, I don't see any problem with Ibanez giving it a go. Me, I would have rebranded it like Lexus, but what do I know. So many top tier companies now have their made in Korea budget line. Why shouldn't budget companies go the other way?

Sadowsky says that they do not get their bodies from Warmoth. I think there may have been a Warmoth order in the past at one time, but it was never a regular thing.
It is true he no longer uses Warmoth. But, none of his bodies are made by hand. His bodies are made by subcontractors using cnc machines. Just like Ibanez, Peavey, Fender, etc, etc.

Of course not. What have I said that implied that I did? My position has always been that Ibanez is free to offer up anything they want at whatever price point they like and let it fly - or not - on what the market will bear. There is obviously a market out there for very expensive (a la Alembic, Ritter, et al.) basses. If Ibanez wants to play in that arena and thinks it can, more power to them.

Thanks for the kind wishes, Thomas; I appreciate that. Not to worry; I took no offense, whatsoever. I actually appreciate everyone's input and it's great to see that the bass is at least being talked about.
It's no secret that the pricing was not what I had hoped it to be, but Ibanez obviously had a reason for it and I trust they have an objective with this instrument. My hope is that the players that try it out will see that it really is a fantastic instrument that sounds fantastic and holds its own against the other boutique basses out there. When the production line version comes out it will be much more within reach, price-wise, and I look forward to seeing how it is received, as well.
