First time I've got to say this about Ibanez...

I actually appreciate everyone's input and it's great to see that the bass is at least being talked about. :) It's no secret that the pricing was not what I had hoped it to be, but Ibanez obviously had a reason for it and I trust they have an objective with this instrument. My hope is that the players that try it out will see that it really is a fantastic instrument that sounds fantastic and holds its own against the other boutique basses out there. When the production line version comes out it will be much more within reach, price-wise, and I look forward to seeing how it is received, as well.

I'm sure the current version and the production version are and will be great. I am also sure that people will complain about the price of the affordable version too.

Same with LTD/ESP. LTD is a good budget brand, though quality isn't always even for their instruments. However, ESP has higher quality for their instruments and is also been seen as ''overrated junk'' by some.

I remember how shocked I was at the price of the Grooveline series when it came out. Recently Sweetwater had a great sale on them so I picked one up ,$1349.00 If memory serves. While still not inexpensive I gotta say the quality is top notch. While I know the design was not for everyone, I think it was a really well thought out bass. If it had started out at a price point closer to what I got mine for I think it would be a good value.

I had a couple LTD B-series 5ers that had some serious QC problems ... never again. I should have never strayed from Ibby SR, but thought I'd try something else.

As far as signature basses go - I have zero interest. They cost way too much (any brand), and besides that - I'm just not interested in someone else's sig bass.

Most people that buy a signature (bass) guitar are 9 out of 10 times a (huge) fan of the musician. Just look on youtube and you will see many (bass) guitar players that used the same equipment like their idol does.

this is true but the problem is product perception-

very few players would know all the details between them all.

that is why a bass like mine Yamaha (BB1025X) will be a hard resell; it looks exactly like the BB425X which sold very cheap new and yet the 1025 sold for considerably more.
to go one step further, from my research, there is virtually no difference between the 2025 and 1025 other that they are built in different countries-why would anyone buy the top -o - the line one for a $1700 markup? this might explain why Yamaha dropped these models-they should have built one model at a mid priced point and they would have sold more.

personally. I think it does a manufacturer a disservice to offer three or more basses at different price points, but all look the same. if you are going to market a high end instrument, at least make it so it is exclusive to your other models and stand out so it doesn't get confused with the other cheaper ones.
