Bump time again.

Heading out both days this weekend off of Port Stephens to target Marlin, the East Australian Current has really pushed down the coast hard over the past couple weeks. The plan is to skip some dead baits off the outriggers in 70-80 fathoms early in the day for Striped Marlin, then go wide to 500 fathoms and put out some bigger lures for a Black or a Blue Marlin. We have every chance of getting a grandslam, which is all 3 Marlin species in a day. Have my fingers crossed!!

Will definitely get out the cameras, will need to use the new HD video camera sunglasses again, last time they worked an absolute treat. Might have to put them on the angler this time and take some video with a little digi cam to make a nice little movie.

Reports have been boats coming in with double digits of tagged marlin. That's the kind of stuff that get's your heart racing and blood pumping before you even hit the water. Oh, and we have also managed to fit in some fishing on Monday too :)

Will definitely post a report, confidence is high.

I checked out those shades Jordy, and a few other light mount anywhere cams. I may need one for a b-day present.

Went out for pickerel last Sunday. January on the Chesapeake tributaries is pretty slow but you can sometimes scare up a pickerel. No luck, but so nice to be on the water...I was the only boat I saw all day.

Myself and many of my friends are just itching to get out on the ice... unfortunately we have had a very mild winter. Most of us have put our boats away for the winter, mainly because of insurance issues... most insurers here only run from March to November as it's pretty hard to run your boat on 2 feet of ice! LOL
Hopefully we get a good cold spell so we can start drillin holes and enjoying more of our winter, than hiding in our houses, hoping for warm weather!

The GoPro cameras are pretty popular on alot of boats in Australia. Get the big memory card and a lithium battery pack and you can mount it on your bimini/hard top and record your whole days fishing. They also come in a waterproof casing so you can grab the camera and film the fish underwater. A luremaker in Australia named Peter Pakula has done a bit of work with them and the movie he made just recently of a 650lb Blue Marlin is a good one. Just a pity Pakula himself is such a douchebag...

Had a bit of a bad weekend on the marlin, we saw only one fish on Saturday which gave the lure a half hearted whack and that was it. On sunday we saw 3 fish but only tagged and released the one fish, a solid Striped Marlin of around 200lb on 50lb tackle. Here are a couple of pics of me leadering the fish to the boat and some video, shot with the HD sunglasses I have.

cosmicpimp2, make sure you post some pics. Always love seeing different species of fish caught from the other side of the world :)

Noticed this thread has been quite slow with the reports, surely this means everyone is busy with their respective music and bands whilst their precious fishing gear collects dust in the corner of the garage, right?? :P

From Virginia North to Maine we generally pull the boats by Thanksgiving, end of November and put them back in at the end of March. Give or take of course depending on the area and your preference.

Don't know what you yanks call it, but over here that is known as 'shut down' time. Not that I have ever seen snow in my life, Australia is a little too warm for that :smug:

Hearing local reports of boats tagging up to ten marlin a day at the moment, and I can't get out and go fishing until the 18-19th of February. Bugger....

Here's one you guys might recognise, Australian Bluefish (although over they are called Tailor, although most people call them Choppers and they don't grow to the same size as the one's you guys get). Weather was so beautiful and was great doing 40mph across the lake in my 12 foot pocket rocket whilst staying bone dry. Water was coffee-brown in colour from previous days of rain and the fishing was very slow. Caught on a Berkley Gulp 3 inch Nucler Chicken Minnow pattern. Got another one the same size, but I consider these guys as by-catch.

Yes, we get plenty of bluefish here on the eastern seaboard of USA. They are quite oily and fishy tasting but I like to smoke them if I run into them and catch a bunch. Also considered by-catch here, but great fun on a very light rod....they can get pretty big here and are angry SOB's!

Good to see a few new posts, surely the fishing is getting better in the Northern Hemisphere at the moment with the warmer weather?

As it approaches winter down here, the mass numbers of Marlin that we were getting is starting to thin out. What we get left with now is concentrations of BIG Blue Marlin off the coast. I'm fishing on Tuesday and Wednesday off Sydney for them, and from first-hand reports it seem's that I will have trouble finding fish under 350lb. Seem's like 500lb is the average fish at the moment with a fish being released recently that was estimated at around 650-700lb!!

Better start stretching out my back :D
