Time to bump this thread me-thinks???

Anyone been out fishing lately?? In about an hour I will be taking my little 12 foot runabout to a drop off in the lake on my door step. The aim is to catch a fish here called Whiting, they average about 10-16 inches long and are some of the most delicious tucker around this part of the world. Hope I bag out!! :D

Pulled my boat out on Wednesday. Opening day for big game is tomorrow so I am slowly making the transition to hunting. However, I will be on the water around Jones Inlet to get some of the striped bass fishing that's been going on.

Pete- you going out tomorrow too?

Just got back from the trip I mentioned in my last post. We got 11 fish (Whiting and Bream, a couple iconic southern Australian table fish). At around $20 per lb and each fish being a pound or over, that equates to a pretty good day on the water for me and a mate :D

Not the greatest picture, but I was trying to get back home in a hurry. Good result for the first day of 'real' fishing for my little boat :)

Been watching the sea surface temperature for the eastern seaboard of Australia and it has been making me itch. Marlin are starting to show up off the coast. Not huge numbers, but I am hearing of a handful of Marlin up to 300lb being tagged by boats on the weekend. Enough to get a gamefisherman's heart PUMPING!!!!

Wanting to get a marlin out of my new little toy this summer whilst fishing solo. We have hatched a plan to go as a fleet of small boats so as that if one of us get's in trouble, there will be others around to help out. The biggest boat will be my father's 22 foot fibreglass gamefishing vessel, but the rest of us will be in little open boats.
My boat is a 12'6 fibreglass open runabout with forward controls, 40hp Suzuki 2 stroke (absolutely flies!!).
The fish only needs to be 300lb for it to be an 'Old man and the sea' situation where the fish is bigger than the boat! But I would much prefer fish smaller than 200lb, will be much more manageable from my little boat whilst on my own.

I kind of feel bad for my mate who will be in his 13 foot aluminium tiller steer runabout, trying to do the same thing. Whilst his back and shoulder will be sore from a whole day of driving around in a tin can, I will have my feet up in my little runabout.

Call me crazy, call me suicidal, but I think I might be onto something here ;)

Heading out early tomorrow morning to the local drop off again with a bucket of bloodworms in my little 12 foot fibreglass runabout. With a 40hp 2 stroke, I should get there in no time ;)

Last time I was there, we got 11 fish. But I was fishing with a mate who doesn't do much specialized fishing like I do. Tomorrow I will be on my own, so hoping to beat that number. With a restaurant value of around $20 per fish, that's not a bad day's haul :)

Time to bump the international fishing reports!!

Went out yesterday in my dad's re-built trailerboat to see if we could get first Marlin for the boat, my cousin and the summer season. Trolled around for 10 hours for absolutely nothing, then 5 minutes before we were going to pull in the lures a little 130lb Striped Marlin climbed all over the Long Corner lure on 30lb test. 15 minutes later we had him boat-side and close enough for a tag shot, but he threw the hooks back at us. Still a caught fish in our books :)

Here is some footage, I was wearing a pair of sunglasses with an in-built HD camera. Make's it handy to record your memories without having to hold a camera

Thanks mate!! I have helped many people get their first billfish and it is always more of a thrill for me to watch someone else catch their first than for me to catch yet another one. I have always been an open book when it come's to my gamefishing knowledge.

The sunglasses are made by an Australian company called She Left. As far as I know, they are the only true HD sunglasses out there and have the same resolution as the GoPro cameras. For your $250AUD + shipping, you can get the deluxe package which I believe is the best value with 2 hours of footage. There is the option for the 4 hour memory card, but the battery life is only 2.5 hours.

Nice job Jordy. I agree it is way cool to get someone on a fish.

I am going out 30 miles deep on this Thursday on a limited partyboat trip with some club membersto catch some cod and black sea bass for Christmas. Weather is looking might fine so far.

I don't know if anyone has heard, but a local guy by me on Long Island caught a possible NY record blackfish a few weeks ago on charter boat . The fish was over 21.5 lbs which makes to about 30 years+ old. He caught it on light tackle at least. I would have ran the fish back and weighed him in then released him, but hey he caught the fish.

Looks like a good fish (we don't have them here in Australia). Unfortunately, when claiming records (at least to IGFA standards) the fish can't be weighed alive and released.

In Australia, there have been great trends towards conservation and sportsfishing attitudes with many anglers now practicing catch/tag and release fishing. But fisherman will still cop bad press when they swing a tournament/prize/record winning fish, regardless of what is done with the remains (many fish are given to charitable organizations to help feed the homeless, orphanages or boarding schools).
Alot of the time, people don't see how many fish were released until that single fish was taken. For example, earlier in this thread I posted a picture of a 500lb+ Blue Marlin that was caught by a boat I was fishing on. The guys who regularly fish on that boat ended up getting alot of abuse from on-lookers and people who don't know the nature of the style of fishing that they do. They didn't realise that the crew had tagged and released over 30 marlin for the year before-hand, including two other fish before it of around the same size (if not slightly bigger). They didn't want to hear it when we tried to explain to them that the fish had become tangled in the line and had died during the fight. It can be frustrating.
