Fishing Club?

Not quite a huge striper, but I did have a blast on Thursday catching about twenty wild Brookies in about an hour. Didn't see another soul, Northern MI is truly Gods country.

Awsome pics of the trout and flyfishing. I have to get back to it this fall, its been way to long.

Hey guys,

Been a while since I have posted here. Haven't gotten out to fish much over the past few months, busy with work and setting up my own 12 foot runabout for fishing in and around the lake where I live.

However I did get out a couple weeks ago, all boats out that weekend got treated to some absolutely monstrous and beautiful bluefin tuna. We managed a pair around 140lb each, but fish were caught up to 250lb and even some big fish 450lb+ were reported as well. Not bad considering that it is the winter season when most boats are on the slipway getting prepared for the summer!!

Cheers,
Jordan

The NSW DPI bag limits are as follows...

Fish under 90cm/1 yard: 5 in total*
Fish over 90cm/1 yard: 2 in total*

* These bag limits are for all species of tuna combined, not per species.

These bag limits were revised recently and rightfullly so. I think the bag limit numbers were the same numbers but were per angler, whereas they have been revised to per boat now. Seeing a boat come in with half a dozen blokes onboard with their bag limit of Yellowfin and Bluefin tuna was quite sickening as they face very high commercial pressure here. Now the fishery is much more sustainable.

Cheers,
Jordan
These bag limits were revised recently and rightfully so.

Jordy - +1 for by boat regs. Once the fishery fails we all suffer. If not for the morarorium on striped bass we would not have the quality/quality of fish we we today.

Went offshore to 20 mile wrecks and the water was really brown following hurricane Irene. Fished hard with a super flat sea and almost no drift. Managed a few nice black sea bass and a fluke. Was a fast ride home anyway.

Regards------

Back at the lake this past weekend. I've been trying for bucketmouths, but the summer was so warm that the water has yet to reach its normal autumn temperature and the bass just aren't biting well. I didn't catch a single one over 13".

The Northern Pike were hitting if you had the patience to wait 4 hours or more for a strike and most were puny. I caught only one big enough to keep at 26" but I let it go to live another day.

This one my brother caught was a hair over 31" and wasn't so lucky.

It was delicious. :smug:

So with the torrential rains the east coast of the US experienced, the Chesapeake Bay tributaries opened countless dams. This dumped a huge amount of freshwater, and freshwater fish, into the bay. This fall as we are targeting striped bass and bluefish, we are hooking up largemouth bass and huge catfish. Very odd. My buddy also caught a largemouth in his crabtrap off of his dock.

October is here, so anytime now the striped bass and blues will start feeding at the surface. :hyper:

Hey Peter--

I pulled wire/bunker spoons down your way on Saturday on a club members 29' Aquasport ("Second Chance"). Caught a few monster blues by the pipeline for a muscle warmup. Brutal reeling in all that wire.

When we got to the FI we hung outside the east bar and found the bunker. It was mostly blues, but did manage one nice bass before we headed back. We usually stay on ch. 68. What is your vessel's name in case we head back?

I may pull my boat soon as I am heading out to Colorado for elk next week. My friend is keeping his boat in till Dec. 15 so I will have a place to fish late for a change.

I went out again yesterday (I was still sore from all them blues) with another member to the Hempstead reef for blacks and did manage 4 fish at 14-16 inches. Caught over70 short fish including seabass and as many porgies as you want. I love the fall....

Here's one of the catfish that flushed into the Chesapeake Bay from the flooding and dam releases. This one hit a Yozuri floating minnow in about 3 feet of water. Not a huge one at 2 or 3 feet, but again, very strange for this to happen here and surprising to all on the boat.

Ray.

31 Bert with a half tower and blue hull. Name is East Wind. I'm always on 68 or my cell. If you don't have it I'll PM you should be out all day Sunday.

Roger that. Looks like Sunday will be the day. If we head east I will hit you on 68. I got an invite to go offshore on a friend's Topaz on Sunday, but the wife is not buying it with me going to Colorado on Thursday. Bring on the bass!!

Regards-------

The one that got away. Salmon caught on the Sacramento river. Had it on the boat, then the bleed out and tie it up on the side. But my dumb buddy didn't attach the other end of the rope and it slipped off into the depths to become crawdad food. :bawl: What a waste.

We fish for striper, sturgeon and salmon. Salmon season is here and it's good to have it back! We had a ban on salmon the last few years....

Capnjim, that is a killer eye you got there! I have booked my fall Walleye trip for November 18, 19 and 20th on the Bay of Quinte.
The eye's start to move in from Lake Ontario at this time of year and stage/feed in the bay, until the spring... and some real brutes are among the masses.
We'll be chasing Eyes in the 10 - 15 lb class, but all strictly catch and release. Planer boards and deep diving cranks are the ticket...

Have been busy guys and haven't had a chance to post on TB, but then again I haven't really been fishing either lol. Just purchased myself a little 13 foot runabout recently which I am going to take 15 miles out to sea and attempt to try catch a marlin over 250lb whilst solo in my little runabout. If I can do that, I have caught a fish bigger than my boat!!! Although I have to try do it soon though, I am moving to a part of Australia in the next couple of months where there are no Marlin.

Last shot at an adrenaline rush better than cocaine, and I am going for it!!!

Cheers,
Jord
