Fishing Club?

Thanks for the reports guys... love seeing fish that are not available in my area and it's cool to see other bassist's who enjoy our finned friends!
This time of year, we are between seasons, so to speak... we can, if inclined fish for Steelhead (Rainbow trout) up to about 20lbs as well as brown trout up to about the same size.
These fish are on their spawning runs, up the creeks from Lake Ontario.
Being as I am not much of a trout fan, this time of year is a bit of an off season for me... but I did just book my trip to Lake Nippissing for the end of May!
Bring on the Walleye!

Um...I may be wrong...but that seems like closer to 15" IMO

If we use the 5" glasses as a guide.....

Unless that kid has a giant head/hand?

Either way...gorgeous fish!
Heres the proof

I loooooooove to fish. So much! It's been a long time since I've been able to go, though.. I don't have a fishing buddy any more and life's been hectic, but this year... THIS YEAR .. I plan on going. A lot. A lot, a lot.
Okay, sorry. Hyper. Love fishing. I'm not a pro by any means, but my favorite thing to do is go up to Hardy Dam and fish for hours. I once reeled in a 2 or 3 foot? ( Guess-timate) Pike all the way up to the dock, after fighting it for quite some time, only to have my reel snap off and fall into the water.
Twas heart-breaking, considering i was just f-ing around and wasn't expecting to catch something like that and was soooo excited.. but ahwell. Such is life, I suppose.
Until we meet again, Mr. Pike.
:D

Hey guys, thanks heaps for the kind comments! Hoping to head out again in a few weeks time to go chase some of the late season Blue Marlin that are starting to show up. Have heard of boats releasing up to 6 Blue Marlin a day with all fish weighing over 500lb. Might need to put away the 30lb gear and break out the stand up 50's and 80's. 6 years ago I tagged and released a Blue Marlin estimated at 600lb on 30lb tackle, what a nightmare that was!!! Had bloodied blisters all over my hands after that fight.

Radical Edward, I don't think any of us are pro fisherman, I think 'dedicated nut-jobs' would be a better term lol
Yvon, start counting down the hours!!! :D

Cheers,
Jordan

Went out yesterday to chase one of those late season Blue Marlin that I spoke about in my previous post (which is the one before this one, common guys!!!). We were greeted with perfect weather and proceeded out to the 1000 fathom mark where some big blues had been reported. Only one boat saw a big blue yesterday, which they estimated around 700lb. The fish ate a bibless minnow on 80lb leader which they had out for a tuna, and broke off after about 15 minutes. Murphy's law plays havoc once again!!

We didn't see any Blue's so we went to 180 fathoms and tried for a Striped Marlin. We ended up having 3 strikes and tagged one Striped marlin, est. about 130lb on 50lb tackle. One of the smallest Striped Marlin I have ever seen. But, to be catching Marlin in almost winter is pretty amazing to me, this season has been pretty amazing! The hot current which pushes from North to South has been running so hard that it's still bringing Marlin south to colder areas. I love it :D

Cheers,
Jordan

On a whim my brother and I decided to rent a lakeside campsite in Wisconsin from April through October and park his RV there. It's a deep water glacial lake and it's brimming over with largemouth bass, northern pike, crappies, bluegill, perch and bullhead.

The place is only 170 miles away so we are planning to take as many weekend trips as possible to sit out on the water and fish for dinner. Nothing like beer batter fish, freshly caught. Our first trip should be next weekend. :hyper:

We caught a couple good sized Dogfish sharks while surf fishing for stripers and drum this weekend. Sadly, no stripers or drum.

We also caught a seagull with a cast! Mid flight intercept with a hook to the foot. The 4 oz weight and line fouled wing brought him down and we had to reel him in and cut off the weight. He is now rocking a foot piercing for a few weeks.:D

I'm jealous.

I'm jealous.

Don't be too hasty. We're taking the RV (a '78 Chrysler van) into the shop the day before to have the back end welded back together so it doesn't fall apart on the drive up. That's after we've spent the last two weeks tarring the roof, rebuilding the carb, giving it a general tuneup and offering sacrifices to the various camping gods to keep us safe and whole.

Assuming we make it up there this weekend in one piece we can do some fishing. :D

I'll take pictures.

My neighbor saved me from doing some yardwork yesterday afternoon by demanding I join him for the first trip on his boat.

We trolled in 35ft of water just east of Debs Inlet using diving lures. Birds everywhere and only one other boat in sight.

Caught 3 stripers, this one was mine. Solid 38" fish for the start of the season. Will finish the yardwork today.

We decided that with such good weather forecasted for today that we would head out to the 400 fathom canyons here and search for a big Blue Marlin. Had the lures in the water for maybe all of about 10 minutes when this behemoth climbed all over my 50lb outfit. Fish was landed after a 5 hour battle and weighed in at 236.1kg, or 519lb for you yanks. Unfortunately the fish got tail wrapped during the fight and drowned, 2 of the 5 hours were spent with the reel in low gear, trying to crank it up from 1000 feet down. Not a bad effort from the 16 year old angler who suffered sun burn and blisters on his hands.

Cheers,
Jordan

New boat has finally been finished. It's a 22 foot Savage Marlin. Had an old Volvo petrol inboard which we ripped out, re-glassed the transom the transom and bolted on a pod with a 250hp 2 stroke Yamaha outboard. Overall, the boat is 27 feet long. Massive trailer boat!! We also sanded the whole boat back and re-sprayed it with new colours. Originally it was going to be silver and white with black boot and cabin lines, but the paint was going to be too expensive and needed lots of maintenance (it's a fishing boat FFS!!!) so we went with green and white.

We built in a live bait tank with a viewing glass, 3 kill tanks, a floor ice chest, 50 gallon floor tank with reserve tanks built as seat pedestals which hold an additional 50 gallons combined, outriggers, anchor winch, deck wash, hydraulic steering, VHF and 2 meg radios, toilet and an inverter to run Australian 240V power. I think dad wanted that so he can check his Ebay shop whilst on extended fishing trips lol. We also extended the cabin back a bit, however we didn't change the helm chair positioning as the distance from the seats to the controls was quite far for a 5'7 pip squeak like my father. So effectively we get more cabin space without sacrificing cockpit space.

The part I am most excited about is his Northstar unit. It is a depthsounder/fishfinder/chartplotter/radar/fuel monitoring system all rolled into the single screen. The actual screen itself is huge, bigger than most laptop screens. Apparently the setup he is running currently is worth around $5000, but he hasn't got radar or fuel monitoring on it.

We still need to do a few more things with the boat which we will gradually do from time to time such as; rocket launchers for rod storage, tuna tower, clears, etc. But it is ready to go now. This boat had hundreds of hours of TLC to revive it from a boat that was going to be totally scrapped to what it is now; a big, well set-up fishing machine that was built exactly how WE wanted it and with no compromise. Looking forward to taking this baby out once the Marlin come back and christening it...a 400lb Blue Marlin isn't too much to ask for...right??? :D

Only have the one picture of it at the moment, enjoy!!

Hit the Eastern Sierra Nevada this past weekend. The higher lakes were still frozen so we fished the streams coming out of the mountains and the river in the valley below. It was windy the whole time so conditions weren't exactly optimal. Caught some small natives so I avoided the skunk! I'm looking forward to getting up to the high country once it thaws out a bit.

Here's one of the more scenic spots we hit. Owens River, eastern California.

Good job Ray. We are going to have to try to get out this year. I got another boat in the fall so in addition to my flats boat I now have an old 31 Bertram for offshore stuff. Talk to you soon. Any word on the GTG this summer yet?

Thanks guys. It really felt great hooking up with that fish after the long winter. Went codfishing on the Viking in Feb, but it sucked that day.

We will definetly get together and wet a line this year. Congrats on the Bertram. My personal favorite classic.

My club and Norest is having their striped bass clinic at our property at 275 Hudson ave in Freeport tomorrow evening at 7pm if your around. I should be working the gate if you are (or any others TBers) around.
