Fishing Club?

Nice looking 'eye Joe! Bet he made a tasty dinner =)
She went back in the drink after the pic... that fish was 29 inches and because it's a Lake Ontario fish, different genes than your standard Walleye, if was easliy over 10 lbs... not the sort of fish I want to poison my family with...
This time of year, The walleyes are staging for the spawn and following the shad into the bay. They essentially live their entire lives in Lake Ontario, until this time of year, when they migrate up through the Bay of Quinte.
It is not unusual to catch 13-15pd eyes at this time of year. Non of which are fit for consumption... unless you like to live dangerously!!! LOL

Some day I'll make it out to chase after those stripers... unfortunately, here in Toronto, it's quite the drive to get to their waters... nice lookin fish.
I hear tell that they are quite the fighters... all good in my books!
Probably ableto get out on the ice in about a months time... chasing Lakers and Whities is a blast, when you can find 'em.
And, should those guys not be biting, there's always Perch to occupy my time and eventually, occupy my fry pan!

Well, I am am off for three days of drilling and staring down an "ice hole" tomorrow. Heading to Lake Nipissing for some walleye action and perhaps the ingestion of a few bevies...
I'll post pics when I get back... if I'm lucky enough to catch me a Walleye or two!

No shack, we basically stand on the ice... ok, maybe I better explain better.
Right now, the lake has about 22 inches of ice on it, so we will drive our vehicles out to our spots. Lunch on the ice will be pulled pork on a bun, all done up on the ice.
If it gets too silly out there, we will just go in and pound back a few bevies and go from there.
I have many friends who have portable huts and have used them in the past, but for me, I like to be mobile, just as I would if it were soft water season, can't catch a fish, it they aren't where you are fishing.
Ice fishing is actually half fishing, half tailgating and with the right people,it can be a blast! Having the right equipment for the elements is also key... and can be pretty expensive, at the beginning.
Liek anything else, there are tricks of the trade so to speak, that help to make it a very enjoyable time... for me and my buddies anyway!

Cool man. That sounds like a great time. Being mobile makes sense, but can't you guys get busted for pounding some brews while sitting in your truck?

I laughed at the term "soft water season".

Yup. we could, but given the lack of funding for the game wardens, we don't really worry too much about it... plus, we can see them coming from far way, out there on the vast plain of ice!
Yah, we have two fishing seasons here, soft and hard water! LOL

Well a good time was had, fishing success not with standing! The bite was off all weekend, but we managed to have a great time shootin the poop and eating and drinking well!
Don't really have any pics to share, no fish were harmed and therefore no real pics.
Oh well, maybe next trip at the end of May, will yeild us better results.
