I recently picked up this unit to simplify my live front-end rig, and I'm quite happy with it. But I discovered a bug in the docs that bugged me enough to contact their customer support and document it here for posterity.
On page 2 of the manual it says "Set trim – Play hard and adjust the input trim (on the right side) so thel evel LED fl ashes only occasionally." On page 6 it says "The level LED monitors distortion at many points in the signal chain. If it lights frequently, reduce the input trim control on the right side of the device." On page 11 it says "Raise or lower the trim to optimize the input level for your pickup. Play hard and adjust trim so level LED flashes occasionally." On page 14 is lists the spec for the trim control: "Input trim gain range: -6dB to +14dB".
So imagine my surprise and concern when with the trim set all the way down the light flashed with all but the softest notes.
Well, I eventually discovered that they have started putting in 3-color LEDs in this indicator, green-yellow-red, but the manual wasn't updated, apparently.
Customer support was somewhat baffled by my query, and didn't seem to understand my point about this being a docs bug. They offered to RMA the unit for service.
But It's working fine, and the 3-color indicator is an improvement over what is documented. I recorded some samples and listened carefully to verify my analysis of the actual behavior.
My suggested edit would be "Raise or lower the trim to optimize the input level for your pickup. Play hard and adjust trim so level LED changes from green to yellow only occasionally. If it flashes red, distortion may result." It would be nice if the spec section had an actual definition of this behavior, too, e.g. green: -24db to -10db, yellow:-10db to 0db, red: above 0db or whatever it actually is.
Anyway just thought I'd save anybody else the consternation if they've run across this. Overall I am very pleased with this one-box solution to my previous rat's nest of devices and wires.
