Flakes

Probably just sold it to someone else and didn't feel obligated to let you know.
Or it could have been that your "low-ball" ( I put low-ball in quotes because I don't really think it was) price offended the seller and they just didn't want to deal with you after that.

OT but a reasonable analogy -
I once had a guy who mowed my lawn for me. He was $ competitive and showed up when he was supposed to/did good work. This went on for a couple months.

A friend with rental property was needing someone to mow some of his unoccupied properties and asked me if I knew a good lawn company. I threw my lawn guy some business by giving his number to my rental property friend. Shortly after that, my lawn guy stopped showing up. I called lawn guy's cell a couple times and my calls would go straight to voicemail. Not the norm for lawn guy. In fact I don't ever remember getting his voicemail before this...

I borrowed a cell phone to call the lawn guy so my info wouldn't pop up when his phone rang. You know, just to see if he was screening out my calls. Turns out that's exactly what was happening. Lawn guy was ghosting me!

When I talked to him, I learned that lawn guy was ticked at me and didn't want to mow for me anymore because when he mowed one of my friend's rental properties he (somehow) mowed over a hornets nest and got stung. The way he figured it, I put him in harm's way by referring work to him that included a hornet hazard....

Flakes:
Don't do no good
They never be workin' when they oughta should
They waste your time
They're wastin' mine

California's got the most of them
Boy, they got a host of them
Swear to God they got the most (Yeah)
At every business on the coast (Yeah)
Swear to God they got the most (Yeah)
At every business on the coast
They got the Flakes
I knew this would show up!

My rule of thumb is that your disappointment is in direct proportion to your expectation. Trading on line can be problematic. You don't always get what you want and there are myriad scenarios that may affect the person at the other end of the transaction.

I've been trying to sell a bass locally for the past two months. Three times, I've had an interested buyer and we agree on a price. They say they will message tomorrow to set up a time and place to close the deal and then....nothing. If you change your mind, that's cool, but how about a smidge of common courtesy and drop me a text so I can go about my business.

So I made a person an offer on an item that was a reasonable offer (within 10% of asking price). The person responded within 24 hours with "I'll let you know tomorrow", tomorrow came and I followed up and have not heard back. Why are people such flakes, if it's no, just say no. Have had similar cases where people flake out. Be courteous and straight forward.
The horror!
Why are some people flakes? Why do some people love to whine?
Great mysteries of the world.
Good thing you're being the reasonable one in this situation... ... ... ...

*whispers* they don't owe you an answer.

He is obviously not that motivated to sell… if I’m looking to sell some thing and you offer me within 10% , I’m like ,”yes sir, would you also like me to shampoo the dog and bring the car around?”

Haha

I have had many experiences when inquiring about an item for sale, where the seller doesn't respond in a window that works for me.

I generally have the opinion that if you post something for sale, please don't do it just before leaving on vacation or similar.

But then, it has happened to me as a seller-- I've become distracted shortly after posting an ad and may not end up responding for hours. This is rare but changed my attitude regarding being on the other end if the situation.
For me, the problem in the OP's scenario is that the seller did respond within 24 hours, claiming he'd let the OP know "tomorrow" - then never got back to him, even after the OP followed up.

I don't require any seller to respond to me right away - 24 hours is a reasonable window, IMO. Just don't respond, then leave me hanging.
