Flanger pedals; Which is the best and why?

I use a Boss HF2 Hi Band Flanger with good results. It mixes an octave up flange with the dry. They don't make them anymore since they're from the 80s.

To clarify, the HF-2 has a BBD chip with half the stages, which allows the flanger to sweep higher than the BF-2. Some may prefer the higher sweep range; however, it does not produce any sort of octave effects.

Considering the vast number of dirt pedals in the world, there are surprisingly few pedals that are just flangers. The purple Boss BF pedals are fine, but not really small. Personally I use the EHX Stereo Electric Mistress, which is also far from small, but is easy to use and has both flange and chorus.

Compared to the Boss Bass Flanger BF2B, that has the same BBD chip, it does produce an octave tone

Okay... will check into that. Didn't notice an octave generator in the schematic.

For the record, my personal favorite is the original TC SCF.
It is 30 year old yet I don't think anything better has been released.

Thanks for saying this. I have a new TCE Corona Chorus pedal and because of your comment loaded the SCF Flanger Toneprint, it's just what I wanted.
