Flanger pedals; Which is the best and why?

I woke up this morning and though...'I NEED a Flanger!' (That's literally what happened..odd. No?)
Now, I have nooo idea as to what's out there and what's good and what's not.
Can you help?
I like them simple and with a small footprint. That's all I know.
Input greatly appreciated!

I suggest this one. It doesn't have too strong of a personnality, packs a lot of nice tones, isn't too expensive and has a pretty small footprint.

A chorus and flanger are very close in conception, very often you will see pedals that do both.

Since MXR has been mentioned already...how about their micro flanger(M152)?

To add...I am after that weird slurry tape sound that can go random at times. Not after the chorus like shimmer, some flangers seem to produce.
Or...might it not be a flanger I need?...

I've played around with the flanger setting on mine and no matter what I can't get a sound I like. I also have a BF-3, but I don't really care for the sound. However the MXR EVH Flanger I recently got, is great. And what I'd recommend. Probably a bigger footprint than what the OP is looking for and unfortunately runs on 18 volts, but the sound is great. I mostly use it for '80s sounds and The Cure-type stuff.

There's not really an overall 'best', just whatever works for what you want to do.

That being said, after trying the pedals mentioned already and about 20 more, my favorites were two TC Electronics flangers....the Vortex Mini and the Dreamscape.

Overall, the Vortex or Vortex mini is probably the 'better' flanger but the Dreamscape has two flanger settings that sound awesome and my favorite one is not available as a Toneprint so I keep that one too! Back to toneprints...that's what makes the Vortex/Vortex mini a fantastic pedal. With the Toneprints, you can make it sound any way you want. On top of that, the Mini is itty-bitty. Plus like other TC pedals there is no low end loss and it handles up to line level input so you won't overload the input.

Have any sound-clips for illustration? Without specifics, this thread will just become another list of people's favorite flanger pedals. Could be you don't actually want a flanger....
