Flanger pedals; Which is the best and why?

Well, I thought for this once I didn't have to spell out the 'for you'.
Obviously I was wrong on that one...
I have the Epitom3 (Which has Electric Mistress), MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe (which has the flanger setting) and the Boss BF-3 and I really like all of them! I use them for different settings.different songs, but I use the MXR the most as it is almost always on. Lower settings but really good on my ears!!
I agree with all those that recommend TC. I had the TC SCF and sold it like a dummy about 3 years ago. That pedal had some great sounds, wish I still had it.
Nothing comes close to A/DA Flanger, IMO.
I also dig vintage MXR 117 and would love to try new Minifooger.

My favorites- TC Vortex and MXR 117. They both can get nutty; I prefer the TC slightly because it sounds a bit clearer and introduces noticeably less noise.
As already said: The A/DA is incredible for so many reasons. That's why I can't wait to try this:

Line 6 Liquaflange Wide range of sounds, literally hundreds, small footprint, inexpensive, mono or stereo, sounds great. Zero through and step sequence as well.
I love my ADA, but its just too big for my pedal board. Just got an Electric Mistress XO. Certainly not an ADA, but it has gotten more compliments in a very short while, than anything else has in years.
The pic from A/DA is a mock up of a redesigned flanger (it's not a re-house) in a 1590B size enclosure. They say they are moving forward on it. I'd really like to hear how it turns out.
And in the end, you made the right choice! Love the Vortex, and the Toneprint function is incredible.
I have a Bass Chorus Deluxe now that I primarily use in flanger mode. I like the flexibility of having both effect options in one pedal, and I really don't use that strong of a flanging effect so it works fine for me.
Previously I had a Toadworks (now TEN Effects) Barracuda which as a pure flanger is very hard to beat...awesome "Jet" sound, very clean, solid as tank...super nice. But if you're not going full-747 mode, then you may not need something quite as boutique as that since you may not be able to tell the difference at lower strength settings, so to speak.

I've tried the TC Electronics Vortex, and was not terribly moved by the stock sound pallette. I asked if I could try some tone prints and the store demurred. Some day I will try with some good tone prints, which I think you have to use to get a good sound for bass.
I have been pleased, although never floored, by my Boss BF-3. I did try it head-to-head with a friend's BF-2 and actually like it a bit better as a normal flanger, plus the gated/chop mode is a cool sort of tremolo/stutter sound that I use sometimes as well.

If you're looking for a really tape like sound a Strymon Deco may be more up your alley than a flanger? Or a Catalinbread Zero Point which acts more like a tape flange than an LFO controlled pedal would/could.

Flanging is a tape related thing, isn't it`
So I'd expect a flanger to give me that slurry tone rather than a chorusey thing as many seem to.
I also like a certain random modulation element to what it does.
Not sure if that's asking too much from a flanger though ?
My Empress Nebulus beats the TCE SCF and Moog IMHO. So so versatile, presets, simple yet deep if you wanna dig into it.
