Flats on a modern active bass?

Besides the famed D'addario Chromes, wich are impossible to find in this south side of the world, would you recommend T-I jazz flats for a modern active beast?

YES! I will be putting them back on my Bongo soon. Thick, phat, punchy and meaty! They sound great thru the p.a. too. The D & G strings sound thick too, and don't thin out and get lost in the mix.

I put LaBella flats on a Euro 5, EMG DC pups. I did like them for awhile, but I missed the sustain. I should get another Euro 5 and have both string types!

I put flats on a Spector Euro 4 with EMG PJ set.. they sound amazing... I was shocked.

Chromes on Ray35. It sounds like brand new round wounds that have lots of overtones but less zing. It is just what I wanted. I turn down highs and mids a little and boost lows a little and it really sounds great. Low B works well with this EQ and sounds good too. Flats doesn't have to sounds like dead strings IMHO.

GHS Precision Flats on my CallowHill J5 and Ibanez SR505SM. Although I have some GHS Brite Flats (ground wounds) that I may try on the Ibby or the 'Hill.

Have a set of DR Flats that I thought about putting on my 55-02D, but I like having the steel rounds on there for something different.

Ernie Ball Flats on my Music Man Stingray reduces the "zing" with out without eliminating it completely. Great tone options with the 3 band EQ and flats IMO

Chromes on my 44-01, D'Addario tape wound flats on Barker Brio. TI's E theough C on an active fretless 5. I don't currently own one but I've done flats on an L2000 and also StingRay Classic.

All my 4 piezo basses, including the Barker use tape wound flats. The Barker is also mag as well...

For the most part I prefer flats though I do keep a fretted 5 strung with TI rounds just in case...

Not sure if a 2012 Fender American Deluxe fits your definition of a modern instrument, but I put flats, (don't remember which) on mine, and it made me enjoy it even more. I also bought an Am Dlx J after buying the P, and have left the rounds on it because I think it helps to differentiate it from the P, but if I only had the J, I would be very tempted to put flats on it.

I tried some flats (I think they were DRs) on my Ibanez SR500 a while back. Wasn't crazy about them, but I certainly wouldn't rule out the flatwound/active combination altogether. I think that particular pairing just didn't work very well.

I have a set of Precision Flats on my Warwick Corvette $$ 6 string, that I'm currently using in a theatre production of Les Mis. They work well with the bass, and sit really well in the mix, so it's a win-win for me.

cool bass.. but..whats with all the strap button locations?..even at the neck there seems ..strange..to me.

TI Flats + my Lakland 55-94 = heaven. Sadowsky flats are nearly as nice.

Got a set of TI flats on my Carvin LB75P and I'm absolutely enjoying the combination. It even tamed the harsh sizzle of the piezo and I can easily copy the clean sound of a fretless.
