Yes, flatwounds on all my basses.

GHS Precision Flats on my Fender Cowpoke and Douglas WOB 826, Hofner/Pyramids on my MIG Hofner Club, and an old set of Fender 9050CLs on my new ESP B50 FL fretless (cause it came with cheapo rounds and the Fenders happened to be lying around) .

I've tried lots of different flats, and I've finally settled on the ones I consider my favorites; Fender 9050L's! Close second;D'addario Chromes ECB80's.

If I were to classify say Rotos, Daddarios and Ernie Ball flats as brightest and say GHS, LaBella and Pyramid as warmest (these are the ones I am most familiar with) can someone tell me what would be right smack dab in the middle between those two tones? I DO NOT want Thomastiks. I like them but need heavy higher tension for the particular bass I'm wanting to restring.

Looking for Goldilocks here - not as warm as GHS and not as bright as Daddario. I like them all but am looking for a middle in this case.

Look into Sadowsky flats. I've heard people describe them close to what you're saying. However, I've not used them, so take my word with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I would also recommend the 45-105 Sadowsky set. A little brighter maybe than La Bellas.

(sometimes I wonder if all of these strings are actually the same thing and the manufacturers read these forums and laugh)

Been using GHS Brite Flats for years, love em. I'll take #4, my favorite number, and hope no one else has it, or cares, which is likely.

Love Brite Flats on my P. Also love the GHS Pressurewounds for a flat sound and a round-ish feel, if you miss the grabbiness of rounds when playing flats

Just ordered a custom set of GHS Precision flats from Jason at www.bassstringsonline.com! The set is 40-55-75-100-128, built to be as even-tension as possible. To find the gauges, I used khutch's tension calculator; PM him for details!

Time to take off the Chromes (the only flat I have any real experience with) soon! These Precision flats will be going on my Squier Standard Precision V (passive Jazz electronics), so I'm pretty excited to hear the results! Also ordered some Planet Waves HYDRATE Fretboard Cleaner, because my bass needs it badly.

Flats? I love 'em. I put a set of .45 - 1.05 chromes back on my Telebass (I was trying a set of Roto 77's )... I set it up and got the action nice and low.
It plays much nicer like this. The less tense E and A are more playable with the lower action...

Such a good feeling. Plenty of bite!

I have never understood the desire for even tension. Can someone educate me?

I prefer even tone, which in my experience means the D and G need to be on the heavy side and therefore very high tension.

Strings with more even tension seem to have warm B & E (and sometimes A) strings but twangy D's and G's.

I'm now back in business!!! I've just bought a Squier Bronco short scale bass that I set up with GHS precision flat.... Like that setup alot!!!

Also playing labella flat on my fretless bass... Sound Like heaven!!!!!
