flatwound strings on a Jazz bass

Funny you should mention La Bella... I tried the 760FL on my J once and was unimpressed. Almost like they were too "polite and refined", while the Fender 9050s sounded "rude and unrefined" but in a good way, if that makes any sense.
It definitely makes sense. I know exactly what you’re talking about. It’s weird too, because you’d expect a refined string to fit a refined bass. But, when you think about it, a lot of people like rounds on a Jazz Bass so it seems like the Fenders are a good, a real good compromise. Especially through Ampeg.

Speaking of Fender, check out the La Bella .045-.105 set I just put on my Gibson. Looks like Fender silk esque green.

Do it!
I’ve had a set of DR flats on my jazz for about 6 years.
I had a little thing for a while where I had some GHS pressure wounds (or were they half rounds).
Had DR flats for a couple years befor that.

I let a guy play it once at a jam. monster player. I think the flats really threw him off, but he said they sounded good.
He called em “slicks”. Never heard that before or since.

Chromes sound great on everything I’ve put them on, including Jazz basses in 30, 32, and 34 scales, Gibson LP and LP jr, Rick 4003, and numerous Ps and P/Js. I also like TIs, but I don’t think they’re worth the extra $. Be careful what you choose if your instrument is string-through.
