flatwounds and rock...do they mix?

i have a pbass that i built and i recently have strung it with flatwounds. i dig the sound....but i play a lot of rock music and unfortunately i dont see a motown/dap kings band in my immediate future.

so as silly a question as it is, should i ditch the flats for my roundwounds or can they serve an applicable purpose in my current gig?

Dan Briggs of the prog metal band Between the Buried and Me also uses flatwounds.

Same here..... I put up a thread with the same question. I switched all my basses to flats and never looked back. I play a grunge/garage/rock sound and I am in love with them, Ill never go round again. The flats give your bass its own unique sound that cuts through the mix better IMO.

Man it doesn't matter what anyone else does, you said that, YOU "dig the sound." That's all there is to it IMO.

Get some outside feedback. My money says no one will complain about the bass sound as far as whether you have flats or not.

I use flats in my thrash/death band and I sound great in the mix. I don't really care for them when I'm playing by myself, but it is the group's sound that matters to me most.
