flatwounds and rock...do they mix?

I have Roto TruBass 88s on my 4001FL, they are gauged very large, but they are not all that tight-feeling. They feel medium-tension at most.

My band tunes down to D. I've found the flats are great to keep the same tension and not have to adjust my truss rod. And I love the thump, which cuts thru the mix in a different way then the roundwound twang.

"why does your bass sound like a guitar?"

I'm on the complete opposite end of this, I LIKE sounding like a really low guitar.
I find that smooth thuddy tone to be rather plain/boring sounding, not bad, but just not for me.

But flats can do rock music no problem, it depends on the bassist, the band, and the genre. Whether they work best is another question altogether.

I've been using flats on a fretless with my rock cover band for around 9 months. Recently I'm trying out tapewounds. I love the sound.

Oh, forgot: I like my attack to be up front, so that I accentuate the drums, and I can't get that with flats, so I wouldn't use them, but they sound awesome on my buddys JB in his Stoner rock band
