Flea Don't Sound Like Flea No More...

The way RHCP keeps changing is the reason I still enjoy them. I don't think I could find myself remaining a fan of a band that stayed the same for nearly three decades.

Bingo! I pretty love pretty everything the RHCP's have done, from the 80's punk funk to the mellow song oriented funk. Sure, they are a little less adventurous, but the songwritings better. I think Keidis is an awesome wordsmith that blends perfectly with the rhythm section.
I thought Maggie was ok when I heard it, not mindblowing but good..The new album is awesome though. Josh Klinghoffer had some big shoes to feel and did a really good job. I like his singing..A little reminiscent of Lindsey Buckingham, in that his vocals have kind of a female quality.

You are correct. He's using Acoustic USA 360's. He uses 3 full rigs for his live performances.
Flea is really onboard with the Acoustic USA stuff. He contacted them and bought 12 amps! Then dyed his hair blue.

I am sure that it will change some tone live - but if you are going direct through the PA - how much? Plus - the new amps have a mid range horn so freq response is better than the old W bins. Thus - he should be able to dial in any tone he wants.

Personally - I was not much a a RHCP fan - until now. But then - I am into the idea of the new Acoustic to.
lmao..i knew i would be coming back to this sooner or later
Wow the 63 Jazz and the Acoustic stuff went out the window pretty fast....or this guy is lying...but i doubt it!

also, i saw him in dublin last week playing. he just has modulus's on tour with him. i think even his jazz is made by modulus. And he still has his trusty stingray 5, although i didnt see it at the gig, but its proof that all good bassist will have a stingray somewhere in their arsenal! and yes, gk amps, and active pre-amp. he doesnt really use pedals, just really high end gear.

i saw them last week in dublin, and let me tell you, flea hasnt lost it at all. deep punchy tones mixed with springy highs, it was brilliant. i cant think of a better abnd to go see live. also, his new stuff is quite difficult to play. try monarchy of roses. I didnt like the new album, but after hearing it live, im converted :D

I basically watched parts of 20 something vids from the current tour to see what gear he was using and when he switched and I can tell you know that I watched this much that I could audible decipher between the two sounds/tones with my eyes closed

His GK's sound way better, I have done an audio engineering course and I am confident in my statement and that I know what I'm talking about!

:-p

i've never heard of "acoustic" amps, maybe its an american thing? and maybe flea just decided that the GK's were better, and he was right. however good it sounds on the album, it sounds twice as good live.

I was upset with them over the whole bungle thing as well however that was just AK not the rest of the band. Mr Bungle will alway be regarded as better musicians patton is miles ahead of AK. Also from what i have read Flea had very little to do with the By the way record john was overbearing on that album to the point of flea almost quiting the band. I love his sound on the new album much better than the clanky tones we have been gettig from him. OHM i think is a masterpeice as well

http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?v=Rp0eNy6M6mc Flea sounds however he wants to sound. He has become a more versatile player in fact. Check out Did I Let You Know?, Ethiopia & Factory of Faith on the new album. They still deliver live & to meander off topic a smidge, this is the best phase for Chad Smith locking in the pocket with our beloved Flea. Plus Josh's backing vocals are fantastic live.
