Flea, John and Omar gettin down.

Omar's mistakes are probably maginfied due to the unforgiving chemistry between john and flea. He was prolly quite nervous and felt out of place, at least i know i would...

edit: oh yeah, great video! I think john should keep his hair this length. Looks great!

Pretty cool distortion Flea has going on, looks like he's using a tube amp with high gain settings.

It sounds to me like the natural overdrive of that GK 800RB right behind him(I'm pretty sure that's what it is - sounds like mine)

+1 ...I liked it ....and I like how John Frusciante gives Omar support during the whole thing, and hugs him at the end....he looks like a nice dude.

As for MV.... I'm a new fan as of last Saturday; their first album has been in my mp3 player on repeat from Saturday to Wednesday....with no Tool songs in sight(strange for me)

What's weird is that my guitarist friend(whom I can barely keep up with) has been playing them for me for the last two years or more, and I'm just getting into them now....I really didn't like them at all before - what the heck is up with that???

...and I thought that the previous avatar that Figjam had earlier was of himself, lol!(Omar's):o

That is the guitarist from The Mars Volta. He's actually a REALLY talented guitarist and dont be fooled by his screwups in that video. Many can back me on this...

Hiding behind a wall of effects = talented? Eh, I dunno. He's interesting, but I wouldn't use the word talent. His mistakes become more obvious with the less effects he uses. Don't get me wrong, I love "too many effects," but talented? Maybe, REALLY talented? Nah.

this link was posted before and i tried to watch it but couldn't get into it at the time, gave it another go last night and really enjoyed it...thanks for the linky

is it just me or does omar move like an animatronic robot of some sort? (think "hall of presidents" at the disney compounds, lose the glasses, slap on a beard and a tall hat and hes abe lincoln)

i loved the whole thing, there was one part where omar i think his name is, seemed like he didnt really no what he was doin, and john and flea gave each other a look as if to say, wtfs he doin lol

Yeah..I think Omar's chief strength lies in his rhythmic playing - his solos sound better when he can think about them rather than improvise on the spot....John definately seemed to be a more natural soloist....

I might have been a little overexaggerant (this a word?) with that sentence, I still think he's damn good. He only uses but so many effects, atleast from what I've noticed. Distortion, tremolo, delay, flange... I dunno, maybe I don't pay enough attention to what he's doing. When I listen to TMV I usually zone in on Juan, John and Ikey. I dunno, I beleive it takes A LOT of talent to compose something like Cassandra Geminni...

He's really talented since he writes most of TMV's music. He's quite sloppy live but his creativity more than makes up for it.

Nothing wrong w/ being experimental and playing outside of your comforrt zone. I give them all credit for putting themselves out there like that. That being said its obvious the Flea and John are vibing big time, and Omar is knda trying to fit in. A lot of good ideas going on there. Thanks for the link.

Damn, it only got worse after the second time. Flea's playing was...idunno, I didn't like his tone or style. Omar just plain sucked. John was probably the best of the three, doing a decent job.

It was funny though when Flea and John were giving Omar time to solo and he kept ****ing up, and Flea and John kept looking at each other with an expression of "Man he sucks!"

Err...umm.....yeah..........:rollno:

+1 - I like how the "newer" Flea has learned to hold back and groove more - I've always liked him, and his going away from all that flash and more smash has made me a bigger fan of his.....

I watched the video with Omar and John like ten times already, and although Omar gets *cough* "lost" a couple of times(ahem..the "solo"), I thought it was pretty cool - there was some really cool sounds in there, IMO..
