Flea's new Modulus

In the Interview I read (in a German guitar/bass mag, the interview itself may or may not have been lifted from Bass Player and translated into German) he stated he'd never play a modern bass again and I was like "yeah, right!" :p
I'd really like to know what the bass looks like.

I had heard Modulus were making him a new bass for touring and he was going to use the jazz bass solely for recording, but I could be wrong.

Mind you, if he said he's never playing a modern bass again, Modulus would be pretty ticked off...

In the interview I read he says he feels bad for Modulus because he thinks they're nice people and he really liked his sig model but he still can't bring himself to play non-vintage basses any more. I doubt there are translation errors involved, I guess it's just Flea being Flea, i.e. going through different gear phases and tastes like all of us.

I'd like to check out the BP interview sometime, but copies of Bass Player are ridiculously expensive over here.

Here you a pic from last night gig of RHCP in Madrid

the show was good, although I don't like the acousic of the venues. It was sold out, people jumping at every song.
I wasn't so close to the stage (the pic is from a spanish newspaper), but I'd swear the beside the one in the pic, Flea played a bass (likely a modulus clearly) with a P/J pickup
I much enjoyed the concert, it was my first with RHCP !

If I find other pics from yesterday's show, I'll post.

Enjoy, Paolo

I often get the impression Flea lets a bunch of other people worry about his amp settings. An old Bass Player magazine had his roadie talk about his amp setup because he had no idea. It's nice to see he's started to take an interest in his tools!
He always mentions how nice the people at Modulus were to "approach" him to use their basses. He's got such great character in his playing that he can probably drag his tone out of anything. IMO his tone on Stadium Arcadium is far superior to his Alembic/Modulus recording phases.

You should subscribe to Bass Player. Over here it's something like $18 per issue at the newstand  but if you subscribe it's very cheap. They often have online subscription specials. Check it out ;)

Here is one bass he used at Nascar, it's supposed to be an Australian aboriginal flag or something. Notice no knobs and a switch on the front.

Next we have a sunburst.

What I'm confused about is that his new Modulus basses are brand new but have Lane Poors. You think his tech took them from his other Lane Poor basses?

I was about to ask the same, but i guess that when you can pay 1k$ for just a pickup you can get one pretty easy, also modulus is a company big enough to keep some "special stuff" just for V.I.P.s.

That might not be a Lane Poor, though. Stock Modulus pickups have that little dent in their casing in a similar way as the LPs.

It seems like he changes basses more frequently than he changes outfits. Hope he has a backup.
