I had no idea Lane Poor pickups had shut down (that said, I never really knew a lot about them). What happened?

Maybe for the overseas RHCP gigs he decided to not take the risk of letting the baggage handlers take his vintage Jazz on the plane....but I could be wrong. Just a thought.

What's the big deal with Lane Poor pickups? I admit that I don't know anything about them, but a quick eBay search results in a Sage custom bass, starting at $400, with two of them, and a Rick 4001 with one for $910.
That sounds like a bit much for $1000, I've seen jazz sets go for much less than 50% of that. While I'm not sure of the market value of soapbars or MM pups, but that figure seems too high.

When Lane Poor pickups came on the scene they had a sound like no other pickup on the market and just when their popularity started to really catch on LP ceased production and a lot of companies and players went into a mild frenzy so that's not to high of a price to pay for a superb Bass pickup by some who seriously want that Lane Poor sound,(which for many seem to have the infamous eluding IT factor)I've seen them go for more(I own two 4 string new never used Lane Poor MM's,1 five string MM and a 4 string J Bass set,still in the boxes they came in).They really are some great sounding pickups,some could rightfully refer to them as the Fodera of Bass pickups.
Hes playing live right now on AOL. And yes he is using a Modulus.

I just watched the whole webcast of their show in Lisbon and he used the Modulus throughout. Maybe this is his way of living up to the endorsement deal. A farewell of sorts.
I used to live in New Bedford in the early 90's and used to visit Lane and guys (in Fahl Riva) every now and then... Great guy, pristinely-clear p/ups and crazy-looking basses (for those that remember the LP Minima Bass).... Just wish he was still building.

yesterday, i was standing 10 meters away from flea, and he only played one modulus bass, all set long. it was a sunburst, but without a pickguard, but some sticker or something on it.

Bass Player also has a sidebar showing where Flea is showing the basslines from his new album and if you look closely he is playing a Black Stingray 4.
