Flea's new Modulus

Ok, I've been following this thread, the other flea thread, and read the BP article. I've seen the AOL music clip of them playing Tell Me Baby on youtube w/ the shell pink J, and I play it on my J and it sounds just like his. Those can't be flats on there.

Why all the BS about what he plays? I love flea['s playing] he's the reason I do what I do today. However lately there seems to be alot of crap regarding what he plays and what he doesn't play. Maybe it's not crap; maybe we all just care too much, but there are quite a few dichotomies and very much speculation and misinformation going on right now.

This is what I think, and please, flame on, correct, tear down if I'm wrong. Michael Balzary is a normal, if wildly passionate, person. He changes his mind. Fine. No one can blame him for wanting to be, idk, taken more seriously(?) in his endeavors. But at the same time, doesn't he come off as a 14 year old in that sentence? "So I can be cool like JPJ." (no offense all you 14 yos, but seriously, we've all been there. eg: the do you play the same bass as your hero thread).

What we have here is a man who is constantly looking to move beyond the sock that was formally on his c*ck and to the grown up world (though that getup ain't helping lol). Frankly, I give up trying to figure this out, it's like one of those PITA 3d puzzles I got for christmas 10 years ago that I gave up on really quickly. Only this time I spent my formative years looking for the "Flea tone," even though I knew it was in his fingers.

What probably happened? What I thought was going to happen when he started doing all those photo shoots with the J; Modulus got miffed and he needs to rectify the situation by playing 1000 different flea basses.

my two cents,
chris

When Lane Poor pickups came on the scene they had a sound like no other pickup on the market and just when their popularity started to really catch on LP ceased production and a lot of companies and players went into a mild frenzy so that's not to high of a price to pay for a superb Bass pickup by some who seriously want that Lane Poor sound,(which for many seem to have the infamous eluding IT factor)I've seen them go for more(I own two 4 string new never used Lane Poor MM's,1 five string MM and a 4 string J Bass set, still in the boxes they came in). They really are some great sounding pickups, some could rightfully refer to them as the Fodera of Bass pickups.
I live near Lane, and went to his shop once.
Great guy. Killer pickups, Bought a Jazz set, two percision pickups, and some soapbar pickups. To me, some of the best passive pickups ever made. Had some life trama, and stopped
making pickups, just closed the doors, and walked away.
