Works the wrong way. Flipping the switch should raise the fingerboard not lower the frets.

I think it would probably be cheaper to just have two basses, one fretless one fretted...or one of those double neck monsters. Regardless, that's pretty darn cool.

I'm with you - this would certainly maintain the action. But it'd be a LOT harder to do.

Maybe the nut goes down with the frets! At least, it should, and given what this guy's put into the neck, it couldn't be that much harder to add that to the mix...
