Double Bass Flying with Acoustic Image Coda

I am considering taking my AI amp with me on a flight rather than deal with a rental/loaner amp of unknown quality at the destination. Have any of y'all done this?

It's small and light enough that I could take it as a carry-on, either in its cover or in the padded bag Moodradian makes. However, with my bow and personal items, that's pushing it carry-on-wise, and I'd hate to risk having it tossed in the hold, though it might do OK in the padded bag.

Another option seems to be a drum case. I've seen some comments on other sites that a 14x14 tom case fits well. Has anyone done this? How did it work? What brand of case? It'd be great to be able to borrow a case from one of my drummer pals and not need to buy another piece of gear that would only get taken out a couple of times a year...

Thanks for your advice!
