Ooh, I got it! (Short, lame story preceding the suggestion) I recently got a 90's bmw 323is for $4k that is very sure-handling up to its mechanical limit (hp, tq, and gearing vs air resistance) of xxxmph. It is an absolutely lovely highway cruiser as well as a sweet little sportscar.

The 5 series has a longer wheelbase and should then handle even better at highway speeds than the 3 and is available as a db-hauling wagon. There's a huge aftermarket for these 90's german rwd cars so maintenance is nothing compared to what everybody thinks they'd be- about on par with maintaining a honda civic if you're diy. The 2.8l has enough power to have some fun and should get a smidge over 30mpg on the highway. My 2.5 does 32mpg on the highway without drafting and with a little jackassing.

With how much time you spend wandering around the airport and sitting on the tarmac, it'd probably even out if you just drove. Shucks, now that I think of it, for half of what you're paying in airfares, I'll drive ya;)

It's times like this when a Zoom B3 or MS-50b starts to make a lot of sense.
I've got a Zoom B3 and it's fantastic. I can see it working really well for situations like this, provided you're willing to spend the time programming the appropriate effects into it. I used to use a Boss GT-10B, and I think the Zoom has better dynamic response (i.e. more 'realistic' sound).... used it to record and it sounded great. Plus, for this sort of thing you could probably just used 2 patches (with 3 effects in each), which wouldn't be hard to switch between.

Driving to and from Florida is not a nice experience, IMO, especially if you have to use 301 through Lawtey, Starke, and Waldo. Mrs P. and I did that last year. Ughh.

The Bo
Florida speed trap information is nice, but we aren't solving Jimmy's pedal problem. Focus, people.

Given enough time, I personally would ship separately and not take them on the aircraft. I did like the BOSS case, though.
The Boss case is nice since all cables are already installed, no surprise, no something not working, all in the good place, nothing breaks, you just plug and play.

Waldo, FL had its entire police force disbanded by the city council last year because of the speed trap issue and their refusal to curb it. We may not have as many speed traps in Florida as Texas, but they're about as speed-trappy as it gets. And BTW, my gigs this weekend are in Sandpoint, Idaho. If anyone thinks I'm going to drive diagonally across this entire country, I suggest they see a psychiatrist ;)

I have a coworker that has had to drive from Colorado to Vermont quite a few times and he would agree with you. Apparently, the drive through Kansas is the worst.

True story, I have a friend who moved to Calgary for a while and did the Calgary-Montreal drive 4-5 times a year. He fell asleep one time at the wheel of his early 90s Suzuki Swift. He did a bunch of barrel rolls. The thing that saved his life was his guitar amp that basically kept the car from being crushed (acted as a reinforcement pillar) as it rolled over.

So, if you do decide to do the drive, be sure to put an 810 in the back seat.

Or, you could just fly there... ;)

I have no idea where Sandpoint, Idaho is, let alone try to drive there. LOL!
As for Florida speed traps, IMO the most speed-trappy is Hampton. The city actually sits off of 301 but they declared an easement on the main street connecting 301 with the town, resulting in the town getting 1000 feet of frontage on 301. There are photos of police sittng in lawn chairs shooting radar at unsuspecting drivers. Now that's speed-trappy!

Welp, I got everything loaded up for my trip, but I had to resort to adding a laptop bag with half pedals half clothes. The good news, however, is Delta is letting me check two bags for free, so I think I may just take a large suitcase and ditch the laptop bag, and just carry something small for a few items I need on hand. Only problem is I really don't want to repack!

Try driving through Saskatchewan. At some point, you have no idea if you are moving or not.

Nonsense! There's a little dip and turn around North Battleford to wake you up. 'Course, that only works if you're going through Saskatoon, not Regina. It should be noted that Alberta (Edm-Cal, Edm-Lloyd, Cal-South, Cal-East etc) and Manitoba have big chunks of highway hypnosis, too, it's not just Sask that has it.

I think that's how the Saskatchewan Roughriders got their name. The team was coming back from a bush party at Jackfish Lake and the wide receiver fell asleep at the wheel and they went off the road at, yup, North Battleford — Did a bit of plowin' wheat, over the dirt-clod furrows, but all they could do was ...

Go Roughriders! I don't follow CFL, but when I do, I cheer on the Roughriders.

Suzuki Swift. I had a couple of friends who had those, guitarist and bass player. The guitarist had his the longest, used to go 4x4-ing with the big dogs and did alright. He got rid of it when there was basically no body left at all, barely even a skeleton of rust. I wouldn't want to rollover in one, and they are SO easy to roll with... Yoikes!

I love driving cross country, it's a great way to see everything and when you get tired you just fall asleep behind the wheel, well behind the wheel in the back seat – just make sure the chauffeur wakes you up at gas stops so you can relieve yourself...

Glad you're sorted, for now, Jimmy. Safe journey.
