I've always found this suggestion to be odd since it's difficult or impossible to play certain lines while palm muting.

Well yes But what I meant was, people tend to suggest palm muting instead of using foam as a technique that replaces using foam, but it just can't. It's physically impossible...well most people. I'm sure some people can tear it up with their thumb and index/middle finger.

You should find the adhesive weather stripping easily. Two strips back and back, cut to whatever width you need.

I like the super-cheap bag of sponges from Harbor Freight. They are very low density, which makes the muting a little more subtle. I cut a strip about an inch wide and place it right next to the bridge.

I use the foam out of a set of Dimarzio pickups, or a rolled up piece of felt.

That DiMarzio pickup cushion foam is the BEST! Cut it into a solid strip and put it over the strings under an ashtray cover, fantastic muting.

Lol. I have this thin neoprene beer cozy in the shape of a largemouth bass that I use. Just roll it up and slide it under. Not too stiff and not to soft. Works good to keep my beer cold when I'm not muting every note too! Seriously, it sounds great.
