Foam bicycle grips but, if you can't find any material, just palm mute your strings.
Simple, if you can't play the line while palm muting, then use the material many have suggested for muting strings.
I really need to figure something out, too. I do this Portishead cover that pretty much requires that sound. Gotta keep my eyes open at the home depot and stuff.
I use the foam out of a set of Dimarzio pickups, or a rolled up piece of felt.
Lol. I have this thin neoprene beer cozy in the shape of a largemouth bass that I use. Just roll it up and slide it under. Not too stiff and not to soft. Works good to keep my beer cold when I'm not muting every note too! Seriously, it sounds great.
